Patent number: 11700211Abstract: A network management system may allocate different amounts of bandwidth to different types of data traffic. The traffic types may be distinguished by their source device address, and whether the source device is part of, or external to, a first network. Packets may also be marked by their sender with information to identify a traffic type, and the marking may be used to determine the packet's treatment. The allocations given to the various types of traffic may be dynamically modified with changing traffic demands and conditions.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: July 11, 2023Assignee: Comcast Cable Communications, LLCInventors: Jorge Salinger, Saifur Rahman, John Bevilacqua

Patent number: 10050801Abstract: A hybrid fiber-coax network may replace an analog forward link with a digital optical forward link between a converged cable-access platform (CCAP) and node, which may allow for improved data-throughput rates on the network. Replacing the analog forward link with the digital optical forward link may allow for a greater distance between a headend and the node. Further, the digital optical forward link may improve link modulation error ratio (MER), which, when combined with advanced headend equipment, may enable a cable modem to support the high-order modulation profiles (e.g., profiles included in DOCSIS 3.1).Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2015Date of Patent: August 14, 2018Assignee: Comcast Cable Communications, LLCInventors: Jorge Salinger, John Bevilacqua, Saifur Rahman

Publication number: 20170321964Abstract: A support rack can include a first component comprising a ceramic material and a second component comprising a ceramic material. The first component can intersect at least one wall of the second component and the first and second components can be coupled via a ceramic weld. A method of making a support rack can include providing a first component comprising a sintered ceramic material, providing a second component comprising an un-sintered or partially-sintered ceramic material, arranging the first and second component so that the first component intersects at least one wall of the second component, sinter bonding the first and second components together to form a ceramic weld at the intersection. In an embodiment, the support rack can be a piece of kiln furniture.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2017Publication date: November 9, 2017Inventors: John BEVILACQUA, Lawrence M. BANACH

Patent number: 8225159Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to implementing power savings features on storage drives within a storage subsystem. A controller determines a drive is inactive and directs a power connector to prevent power from being provided to the drive. The controller may receive an input/output request for the inactive drive, direct the power connector to allow power to be provided, and provide the input/output request. When the controller receives an input/output request for the inactive drive, the controller sends a notification to the request's originator that the drive is unavailable and to retry after a fixed period of time. The controller performs maintenance on the drive when the drive is not inactive. The controller determines a maintenance time when the drive will be inactive and performs maintenance at an accelerated rate.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2008Date of Patent: July 17, 2012Assignee: Netapp, Inc.Inventors: Doug Coatney, John Bevilacqua

Publication number: 20070299957Abstract: The present invention is a method of creating and assigning a class of storage that is defined by the customer at initialization, such that specific object code is assigned to and used by the devices in a class of storage and such that the devices themselves are grouped according to class of storage. This method provides the customer with greater system design flexibility over conventional naming standards and also provides greater data integrity and security. The method of the present invention includes the steps of assigning a class of storage label, storing the class of storage label, determining whether the device is the correct class of storage for the assigned sub-device group, delivering an error message if the class of storage is incorrect, and assigning the device to a sub-device group, if the class of storage is correct.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 22, 2005Publication date: December 27, 2007Inventors: John Bevilacqua, Paul Nehse, Mike Thiels

Publication number: 20060198316Abstract: The system for remote configuration of QoS parameters enables a service provider to remotely configure the Quality of Service parameters for each application or service offered by networked devices connected to a LAN. This is accomplished by a service provider creating and maintaining a reference repository of the Quality of Service information for each of the subscriber devices that are connected to the Local Area Network. When an application or service initiates its operation, it passes information about itself to a service provider managed server which provides the subscriber device with necessary configuration information, which may include a network address and other configuration parameters. The service provider's server identifies Quality of Service parameters for various applications or services on the subscriber device and communicates association of service identifiers with Quality of Service parameters to the subscriber device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2005Publication date: September 7, 2006Applicant: Cable Television Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Amol Bhagwat, Kevin Luehrs, John Bevilacqua
