  • Patent number: 6001150
Abstract: Boric acid-containing lubricants are disclosed which consist essentially of boric acid and at least one other powder metallurgy lubricant and provide a synergistic free-flowing composition. There are also provided novel compositions of matter for forming sintered metal components comprising a mixture of sinterable, powdered metal and the said lubricants.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 25, 1997
Date of Patent: December 14, 1999
    Assignee: H.L. Blachford Ltd./LTEE
Inventors: James M. McCall, John Blachford, Margaret Cole
  • Patent number: 4404828
Abstract: A lubricant composition for drawing metal wire comprises a lubricant which may be particulate, liquid or semi-liquid and discrete microcapsules having a liquid core, which enhances the wire drawing agent; in particular the liquid core may be an extreme pressure additive or an anti-wear additive; the liquid is released by rupture of the microcapsules in the die so that the liquid is released at the site where it is required.

  • Patent number: 4316852
Abstract: Metallic soaps, particularly zinc soaps are produced from a reaction mixture initially comprising a metal oxide or hydroxide, for example, zinc oxide, water and a glyceryl ester, particularly a triglyceride, the ester and said metal oxide or hydroxide being present in at least approximately stoichiometric amounts; the reaction mixture is agitated and the reactants are reacted in the agitated mixture to produce a metallic soap and glycerine, at a temperature at which the metallic soap is molten, in the presence of an excess of water effective to dissolve the glycerine formed in the reaction mixture such that reaction between by-product glycerine and the product metallic soap is substantially hindered, eventually the reaction mixture is allowed to separate into an aqueous layer and a molten layer of product metallic soap under a pressure such that the aqueous layer is essentially quiescent, and the molten metallic soap layer is dissociated from the aqueous layer; in this way metallic soaps of high purity can be

  • Patent number: 4106932
Abstract: Discrete pressure-rupturable microcapsules for lubrication in powder metallurgy are disclosed comprising a core and a solid shell surrounding said core; the core comprises an organic liquid lubricant able to wet powdered metals, the shell comprises a thin non-atmospherically degradable polymeric material; the microcapsules may be used as the sole lubricant in the manufacture of sintered metal parts or may be used in admixture with unencapsulated solid lubricants to produce synergistic free-flowing compositions; there are also provided novel compositions of matter for forming sintered metal components comprising a mixture of sinterable, powdered metal and the microcapsules.

  • Patent number: 4049680
Abstract: Organic amide waxes having at least two amide groups per molecule are prepared by reacting monocarboxylic acids preferably fatty acids with organic di- or poly-isocyanates; the wax products are useful particularly as lubricants.

  • Patent number: 3994845
Abstract: A self supporting, mouldable vibration damping sheet having a large filler content is made of polyvinyl acetate and a filler; the filler is a mixture of a platelet filler such as mica and a non-platelet filler such as clay.
