Abstract: Disclosed is a tundish apparatus for holding and filtering molten metal, such as steel, prior to the molten metal being continuously cast. An enclosure around the discharge orifice of the tundish accommodates a ceramic filter medium. The enclosure has a removable cover plate to allow continuous discharge of the molten metal in the event the filter medium becomes clogged and to allow access to the tundish nozzle.

Abstract: A zig zag sewing machine needle bar gate mounted to accommodate thermal expansion on spaced bearings of which one comprises a spherical bearing arranged in a cylindrical bushing bore and with a spring clip biasing the spherical bearing against the bushing bore to compensate for lost motion.

Abstract: A flexible light pipe fixed at one extremity to admit light from the lamp illuminating the stitch forming area is shiftably supported at the other extremity to illuminate representation of the selected stitch pattern, and an expandable coil in the light pipe is constrained within a mechanism free compartment within the sewing machine.

Abstract: A manually operable input control member is mounted in a sewing machine for linear movement into a reverse feed controlling position and for pivotal movement therefrom into a reverse feed sustaining position wherein the member is held against a spring which is provided to bias it toward an unactuated hands off position in the machine.

Abstract: A low torque direct dialing pattern selection mechanism for a sewing machine having an operator actuatable control dial. Initial rotation of the dial effects an isolation of the cam follower mechanism from the cam influenced stitch forming instrumentalities. Continued rotation of the control dial causes selective positioning of a pattern cam follower for operational engagement with a desired pattern cam.

Abstract: A latch mechanism for a sewing machine bed extension including a spring biased latch button contained on the surface of the bed extension. The latch button actuates one extremity of a pivotally mounted lever having a tang at the locking extremity. The bed extension has a guide stud which engages an aperture in the base of the sewing machine. The tang passes through the guide stud to lock the bed extension to the base. The bed extension may be removed from the base by actuation of the latch button which causes the tang to disengage from the base.
