  • Patent number: 10697331
Abstract: A retention device for interconnecting a lash adjuster and a finger follower that supports a bearing of a valve actuating mechanism for an internal combustion engine, wherein the retention device includes a body having a lower member, an upper member spaced from the lower member, and an intermediate member interconnecting the lower and upper members. The lower member includes an aperture that is adapted to be received in a groove of the lash adjuster. The intermediate member is secured to the finger follower such that the retention device interconnects the lash adjuster and the finger follower. The upper member includes a bearing retention mechanism that limits movement of the bearing of the finger follower and retains the bearing relative to the finger follower prior to mounting the finger follower and lash adjuster as a part of the valve actuating mechanism of the internal combustion engine.

  • Publication number: 20070221154
Abstract: An anti-tipping feature for a roller follower is provided that is positioned at the socket end of a Type II roller follower. The anti-tipping feature is designed to fit around the plunger of a lash adjuster. The feature has legs that extend down around the plunger to provide stability for the roller follower. Tipping of the roller follower is controlled by the formed legs that extend down the plunger. The length of the legs and clearance determine the amount of roller follower tipping. The valve guide wall height can be shortened enough to still provide valve containment and reduce moving mass which comprises a key component to engine performance.

  • Publication number: 20070137691
Abstract: An apparatus for obtaining radiant energy from a polychromatic radiant energy source has a spectral separator with a first curved surface concave to the incident radiant energy and treated to reflect a first spectral band toward a first focal region and to transmit a second spectral band and a second curved surface concave to the incident radiant energy and treated to reflect the second spectral band toward a second focal region. The first and second curved surfaces are optically positioned so that the first and second focal regions are spaced apart from each other. There are first and second light receivers, wherein the first light receiver is disposed nearest the first focal region for receiving the first spectral band and the second light receiver is disposed nearest the second focal region for receiving the second spectral band.

  • Publication number: 20070107769
Abstract: An apparatus for obtaining energy from a polychromatic radiant energy source has a light concentrator for concentrating and redirecting incident radiant energy, having an optical axis, and a spectral separator disposed along the optical axis, apart from the light concentrator and in the path of concentrated, redirected radiant energy. The spectral separator has a first planar surface treated to reflect a first spectral band of light toward a first focal region and to transmit a second spectral band and a second planar surface spaced apart from the first planar surface and oblique with respect to the first planar surface. The second planar surface is treated to reflect the second spectral band back through the first planar surface and toward a second focal region spaced apart from the first focal region. First and second light receivers are disposed nearest each respective focal region for receiving the first and second spectral bands.

  • Publication number: 20070039174
Abstract: A method and system for forming a rocker assembly includes cold forming a metal blank to produce a portion of the rocker assembly. This portion has a tubular portion that rotatably engages a shaft and an arm that couples with a pushrod. This portion is welded to a valve lever to form the rocker assembly.

  • Publication number: 20050235507
Abstract: Rotational motions between a displacement-measuring probe and an optical test surface define a spherical or near spherical datum surface against which measurements of the probe are taken. The probe has a measurement axis that is maintained substantially normal to the optical test surface during the course of measurement.
