  • Publication number: 20020164824
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods involved in extreme high throughput screening of compounds which have an affinity for a biological target. The system is based on a capillary bundle with two distinguishable ends wherein capillaries on one end are connected to compounds stored in discrete reservoirs and capillaries on the other end are bound and processed to form a two dimensional microarray. A capillary bundle having reaction wells for hybridization and compound reaction in one end of the capillaries is disclosed. The capillaries may be light-conducting. Also disclosed are various methods of identifying a target compound in a liquid using this capillary bundle as well as methods of fabricating the bundle.

  • Publication number: 20020147385
Abstract: A colonic overtube 1 for maintaining a sigmoid colon in a straightened configuration has a proximal end 2 for location externally of a colon, and a distal end 3 for insertion into a colon. A colonoscope lumen 4 extends through the overtube 1 to facilitate passing the overtube 1 over a colonoscope. The overtube 1 has a convoluted corrugation 5 which extends along the entire length of the overtube 1 from the proximal end 2 to the distal end 3. The corrugated configuration of the overtube 1 provides the overtube 1 with laterally flexibility so that the overtube 1 may flex substantially without kinking during advancement of the overtube 1 through a colon. A flexible seal, in the form of a tubular silicone sheath 6 of film material, is provided at the distal end 3 of the overtube 1 for sealing between the overtube 1 and a colonoscope extending through the colonoscope lumen 4.

  • Publication number: 20020010389
Abstract: A retractor (101) for retracting the margins of a wound opening (103) comprises an inner anchoring O-ring (105) attached to a cylindrical sleeve (106) at a distal end and a reinforcing O-ring (109) attached to a proximal end of the sleeve (106). The sleeve (106) is led between an inner ring part (110) and a corresponding recess (116) in an outer ring part (111). The outer ring part (111) has anchor formations (120) over which the proximal end of the sleeve (106) is attached to anchor the sleeve (106). To retract the wound opening (103) the sleeve (106) is pulled while the guide rings (110, 111) are moved against the tissue surrounding the wound opening (103). Tis pulls the inner O-ring (105) against the inside of the tissue adjacent the wound opening (103), and retracts the wound opening (103). The sleeve (106) is manipulated locally for maximum retraction efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6226699
Abstract: A circuit for isolating a device from a bus includes a local clock, a clock multiplexer, and control logic. The clock multiplexer has a first input terminal coupled to the local clock, a second input terminal coupled to the first clock line of the bus, a control input terminal, and an output terminal. The output terminal is adapted to provide an output clock signal to the device. The control logic is coupled to the control input of the clock multiplexer and adapted to detect a bus isolation event. The control logic is further adapted to generate a bus isolation signal in response to the bus isolation event and provide the bus isolation signal to the control input of the clock multiplexer. A method is provided for isolating a device from a bus. The method includes detecting a bus isolation event. An isolation signal is generated in response to the bus isolation event. One of a local clock signal and a first clock signal provided by the bus is selected based on the isolation signal.

  • Patent number: 6128682
Abstract: A circuit for isolating a device from a bus includes a switch and control logic. The switch has a control input and is coupled between the bus and the device. The bus includes a first plurality of bus lines, including a first grant line. The device includes a second plurality of bus lines, including a second grant line. The control logic is coupled to the control input of the switch and adapted to detect a bus isolation event, and generate a bus isolation signal in response to the bus isolation event. The control logic provides the bus isolation signal to the control input of the switch, and drives the voltage on the second grant line to a predetermined voltage in response to the bus isolation signal. The predetermined voltage is independent of the voltage on the first grant line. A method for isolating a device from a bus includes detecting a bus isolation event. An isolation signal is generated in response to the bus isolation event. The device is isolated from the bus in response to the isolation signal.

  • Patent number: 6098143
Abstract: A computer system includes a bus, remote console logic, a remote server management device, and an interrupt routing switch. The bus has a first interrupt line. The remote console logic has a second interrupt line and is coupled to the bus. The remote console logic is adapted to monitor video transactions present on the bus. The video transactions include video data. The remote console logic is further adapted to store the video data and provide an interrupt signal on the second interrupt line if the amount of stored video data reaches a predetermined threshold. The remote server management device is coupled to the bus and the first interrupt line. The interrupt routing switch is coupled to the first interrupt line and the second interrupt line and adapted to couple the second interrupt line to the first interrupt line. A method for capturing video transactions includes coupling a first interrupt line of a buffer to a shared interrupt line of a bus. Video transactions occurring on the bus are snooped.

  • Patent number: 5846278
Abstract: A process for determining one or more leachate concentrations of one or more components of a glass composition in an aqueous solution of the glass composition by identifying the components of the glass composition, including associated oxides, determining a preliminary glass dissolution estimator, .DELTA.G.sub.p, based upon the free energies of hydration for the component reactant species, determining an accelerated glass dissolution function, .DELTA.G.sub.a, based upon the free energy associated with weak acid dissociation, .DELTA.G.sub.a.sup.WA, and accelerated matrix dissolution at high pH, .DELTA.G.sub.a.sup.SB associated with solution strong base formation, and determining a final hydration free energy, .DELTA.G.sub.f. This final hydration free energy is then used to determine leachate concentrations for elements of interest using a regression analysis and the formula log.sub.10 (N C.sub.i (g/L))=a.sub.i +b.sub.i .DELTA.G.sub.f.

  • Patent number: 5591575
Abstract: A novel process is disclosed utilizing a subtraction hybridization technique for producing DNA hybridization probes of high specific activity or cDNA subtraction libraries, useful in connection with the cloning of differentially expressed genes. A preparation of single stranded cDNA derived from transcript mRNA of a target cell source is subjected to subtraction hybridization using excess single stranded "driver" nucleic acid from a reference cell source so that all the cDNA having a nucleotide sequence complementary to transcript mRNA of the reference cell source is subtracted by annealing with the "driver" nucleic acid to form duplex molecules.

  • Patent number: 4352386
Abstract: A cord locking device includes a channel-shaped housing within which a roller is rotably mounted. Oppositely positioned slots within the housing carry a serrated second roller down and away from said first roller, said serrated second roller travels along a grooved wall section, which has a bent portion at the lowermost portion thereof, permitting the second roller to rotate free of the wall at that position. A cord is trained over the first roller and is locked thereto or freely movably depending upon the position of the second roller.
