  • Patent number: 4168943
Abstract: The invention comprises an apparatus for the continuous extruding of a cohesive wire of a thermosetting elastomeric material at a temperature above the minimum curing temperature of said material from a particulate feed of said material in uncured form. The apparatus comprises a hollow generally horizontal cylinder, with a hole extending through an upper portion thereof and having a rotatingly powered screw longitudinally therewithin in close fitting relation to the inner wall thereof and adapted to force an elastomeric material towards one end of said cylinder. The apparatus includes means for controlling the temperature of said powered screw. A feed conduit is included extending generally upwardly from the hole. There is also provided a driven screw within the conduit in spaced apart relation from the inner wall thereof, the screw being driven in a direction to feed said elastomeric material generally upwardly away from said hole.

  • Patent number: 3982983
Abstract: Fluoroelastomers, particularly ultra high temperature thermally stable fluoroelastomers are bonded to a metal substrate by forming a roughened bonding surface on one side of the substrate, controllably oxidizing the substrate at a temperature sufficient to cause the formation of an oxide coat on said bonding surface but below the tempering temperature of the substrate, adjusting the substrate to a temperature above the softening temperature of the fluoroelastomer, adhering the fluoroelastomer which includes a minor amount of an alkaline earth oxide dispersed therein, heated to a temperature sufficient to initiate curing thereof, directly onto said bonding surface, and expeditiously compressing said fluoroelastomer between said bonding surface and a mold face maintained at a temperature closely adjacent to the temperature of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 3941537
Abstract: Briefly the invention comprises a rotary sprayer useful for cleaning circular dies. The rotary sprayer comprises a pair of rotary unions each including a base portion, a cylinder portion upraised therefrom and a hollow rotor portion rotatingly mounted in said cylinder portion thereof, said unions being positioned with their bases in opposed adjacent relation. A pair of hollow spray arms, the hollow portions of which each communicate with the hollow portion of one of said rotors, each of said spray arms ending in a nozzle also form a part of the invention. A pair of passages, one through the cylinder portion of each of said unions, said passages each communicating with the hollow portion of the respective rotor form another part of the rotary sprayer of the invention. Also part of the invention are means for supplying a pressurized gas to each of said passages or a pressurized liquid to each of said passages and means for preventing simultaneous supply of air and liquid to each of said passages.
