  • Patent number: 9969620
Abstract: A method of forming nanoscale diamond particles comprises providing C2 and CH radicals at a low pressure, and nucleating the C2 and CH radicals to form carbon nanoparticles comprising a diamond phase and a non-diamond phase. The method further comprises removing at least a portion of the non-diamond phase in flight during the nucleation of the C2 and CH radicals to form a carbon powder comprising a plurality of nanoscale diamond particles.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 2015
Date of Patent: May 15, 2018
    Assignee: Case Western Reserve University
Inventors: R. Mohan Sankaran, John C. Angus

  • Patent number: 5750210
Abstract: A composition of matter having an atomic density between that of pure diamond and at least 0.18 g-atoms per cubic centimeter and the formula:C.sub.1-z-w Si.sub.z A.sub.w ?H.sub.1-x F.sub.x !.sub.ywhere: 0.ltoreq.z+w.ltoreq.0.15, 0.ltoreq.w.ltoreq.0.05, 0.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.10, 0<y<1.5, and, A is boron or oxygen. Variation of the constituents and the parameters of production of the compositions in self-biasing RF cavities, or primary or secondary ion beam methods, allows formation of films of, for example, desired hardness, lubricity, density, electrical conductivity, permeability, adhesion and stress. Variation of the properties allows production of films formed by the composition as a function of depth.

  • Patent number: 4361641
Abstract: The surface of an electrically conductive substrate is electrolytically modulated to a predetermined profile by subjecting the surface to electrodeposition or electrodissolution through ionically conductive body portions of an ionic conductance resist which masks the surface. The rate of passage of ionic species to or from any given point along the masked surface is controlled by the trans-resist ionic conductance or resistance at that point. The predetermined surface profile is generated by providing the resist with a trans-resist ionic conductance or resistance profile which patterns the predetermined surface profile.

  • Patent number: 3978811
Abstract: A trolling device for movement through a fluid includes a movable element and control apparatus for selectively stopping the movable element to control the movement of the trolling device through a fluid according to a detected physical parameter. In one embodiment, the movable element comprises a paddle wheel and the control apparatus includes a bellows which stops the wheel causing the device to dive when trolled through a fluid such as water above a predetermined depth. When below a predetermined depth, the wheel is allowed to freewheel permitting the device to ascend.
