  • Patent number: 5618234
Abstract: A constant velocity joint comprises two shafts with respective opposed ends carrying respective flanges whose external shape is part-spherical and in which respective part-cylindrical recesses are formed, the axes of which intersect at the geometrical centre of the joint. Two spiders are provided, each including a part-cylindrical portion slidably received in a respective part-cylindrical recess and a part-annular cylindrical portion, the axes of the part-cylindrical portion and part-annular cylindrical portion being perpendicular to one another. A central member affords two part-annular cylindrical recesses, the axes of which are coincident and constitute the axis of the central member. Each recess slidably received a respective one of the part-annular cylindrical portions. The axis of the recesses passes through the geometrical centre.

  • Patent number: 5435210
Abstract: A differential drive mechanism comprises a cage, which is rotatable about a first axis and represents the input, two coaxial output shafts which are rotatable with respect to the cage about the first axis, a coupling which is connected eccentrically to the two output shafts to transmit relative contra-rotational movement between them by connections which permit relative rotation of the coupling and the output shafts about a second axis parallel to the first axis and a restraint member which is coupled to the cage and to the coupling such that the coupling is rotatable with respect to the cage about a third axis perpendicular to the axis and capable of reciprocation in a direction perpendicular to the first axis but prevented from movement in a direction parallel to the first axis. The eccentric connections are constituted by a respective eccentric hole in the inner end of each output shaft in which the associated end of the coupling is received.

  • Patent number: 5029491
Abstract: A differential mechanism for motor cars and other vehicles includes an input, two outputs, a face cam member connected to each of the outputs, and one or more cam followers. The face cam members are arranged co-axially and each has at least one axially directed helical cam surface portion. The helical cam surface portions are of opposite hand. The cam followers are slidably mounted for axial movement relative to said face cam members, and each of the cam followers include two axially spaced helical cam follower portions of opposite hands for mating abutment against the face cam surfaces. The arrangement is such that relative contra rotation of the outputs drives the cam followers to slide axially.

  • Patent number: 4526064
Abstract: A motion transmitting device incorporates a toothed wheel wherein each recess between any two consecutive teeth is a portion of an ovoid profile. The ovoid profiles of such toothed wheel interengaging with a series of ovoid holes formed on a datum plate indirectly through interconnecting meshing elements, thus providing motion-transmitting devices which may have multitooth engagement and thereby multitooth transmission of loads.

  • Patent number: 4449425
Abstract: A motion transmitting device of the quadrant drive type has a wheel, preferably toothed, a plurality of independently movable elements for successively engaging the wheel, a datum member and an eccentric effecting eccentric relative motion between the wheel and the datum member. Connector pins movable in ovoid or circular holes in the wheel and datum guide the movable elements into and out of engagement with the wheel. The movable elements are not linked, as in a chain, but means are provided to prevent them from any tilting or substantial rotation with respect to the datum member.
