  • Patent number: 4730239
Abstract: A solid state double layer capacitor includes an organic electrolyte doped with a soluble salt to render the electrolyte ionically conductive.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 29, 1986
Date of Patent: March 8, 1988
    Assignee: Stemcor Corporation
Inventors: John C. Currie, Linda F. DiFranco, Phillip D. Bennett
  • Patent number: 4633372
Abstract: Improved activated carbon electrodes are disclosed, which electrodes have increased charge storage capacity. Such improved electrodes are incorporated into energy storage devices such as electrical double layer capacitors. The improved charge storage capacity is due to the adsorption of polyoxometalate compounds into the activated carbon, which compounds are capable of reversible redox reactions and so provide a secondary charge storage mechanism without decreasing the charge storage ability of the activated carbon.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 26, 1985
Date of Patent: December 30, 1986
    Assignee: The Standard Oil Company
Inventors: James L. Calahan, Edward A. Cuellar, Michael J. Desmond, John C. Currie
  • Patent number: 4622611
Abstract: Double layer capacitors incorporate electrolytes having relatively high pH whereby reduced leakage current is attained as well as greatly extended back-up times.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 2, 1985
Date of Patent: November 11, 1986
    Assignee: The Standard Oil Company
Inventors: Phillip D. Bennett, John C. Currie
