  • Patent number: 5577233
Abstract: Application programs compiled for a first, "source", computer are translated, from their object form, for execution on a section, "target", computer. The translated application programs are linked or otherwise bound with a translation of the source computer system software. The translated system software operates on the image of the source computer address space in the target computer exactly as it did in the source computer. The semantics of the source computer system softwae are thus preserved identically. In addition, a virtual hardware environment is provided in the target computer to manage events and to deal with differences in the address space layouts between the source and target computers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 25, 1995
Date of Patent: November 19, 1996
    Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.
Inventors: John C. Goettelmann, Christopher J. Macey
  • Patent number: 5551015
Abstract: Application programs compiled for a first, "source", computer are translated, from their object form, for execution on a second, "target", computer. The translated application programs are linked or otherwise bound with a translation of the source computer system software. The translated system software operates on the image of the source computer address space in the target computer exactly as it did in the source computer. The semantics of the source computer system software are thus preserved identically. • Patent number: 4775953
Abstract: A personal computer or workstation is provided with an arrangement whereby the workstation keyboard and printer can be made to emulate the operation of a standard typewriter. The printer associated with the workstation is adapted to receive the workstation keyboard and to hold it in front of the platen and print head at an angle that approximates the angle of a standard typewriter keyboard, while software within the workstation, when called into operation, causes the printer to respond to the keyboard on a keystroke-by-keystroke basis.
