  • Patent number: 4161204
Abstract: A motorized smoke and fire damper including a peripheral frame suitable for mounting within a duct and a plurality of interlocking blades movable within the frame from an open position to a closed position. A normally energized motor is affixed to the frame either inside or outside of the duct to constantly urge a pulley to a stall position. A cable or cables attach to the pulley and are normally retained taut by the motor operation. The cables incorporate a fusible link and are connected to retain the blade assembly in the open position. Interruption of line current to the motor, such as in response to signals transmitted by a smoke detector sensing device, releases the pulley and the attached cables to thereby allow the blade assembly to drop by gravity to the closed position. The blade assembly is also responsive to the presence of heat within the duct upon fusing of the fusible link.
