  • Patent number: 9404464
Abstract: A controlled engine shutdown method is disclosed that includes monitoring exhaust system temperature, monitoring operator shutdown commands, and delaying engine shutdown based on exhaust system temperature. The method can include inhibiting any process that affects exhaust temperatures, for example DPF regeneration. The method can use a shutdown timer, allow operator override of the shutdown delay, and display a delay notification message. The method can also include predicting when an engine shutdown is expected, and delaying or aborting any process that would affect exhaust temperatures when an engine shutdown is predicted. Predicting can include monitoring various machine states, determining an average activity interval for the machine, determining a geographic shutdown area, determining a shutdown time of day and/or monitoring a machine fluid level.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 18, 2013
Date of Patent: August 2, 2016
    Assignee: Deere & Company
Inventors: Mark E. Hull, Steven R. Sass, John C. Lauper, Anthony K. Kraft, Thomas L. Kennedy

  • Patent number: 8875823
Abstract: A vehicle includes a chassis; a plurality of ground-engaging members; and an engine that cooperates with the plurality of ground-engaging members to move the chassis of the vehicle. The engine is positioned within an engine compartment. The vehicle further includes a cooling system including a baffle having a first side and a second side; a battery positioned on the first side of the baffle; and a heat exchanger positioned on the second side of the baffle. The baffle defines a first air pathway to cool the battery and a second air pathway to cool the heat exchanger.

  • Publication number: 20100242453
Abstract: A power system has an energy conversion device and a volume expansion engine. The energy conversion device is configured to receive fuel, implement an electro-chemical process to generate an electrical output, and produce a first exhaust flow. The volume expansion engine is configured to receive the first exhaust flow, combust the first exhaust flow to generate a power output, and produce a second exhaust flow directed into the energy conversion device.
