The stain solution which comprises azures, Methylene Blue and an eosin dye in methanol solution, is stabilized by the addition thereto of a stabilizing amount of a combination of dimethylamine hydrochloride and a second amine of the formula R.sub.2 NH.sub.2.sup.+ Cl.sup.- or R.sub.3 NH.sup.+ Cl.sup.- where R is ethyl, n-propyl or n-butyl.
