  • Patent number: 4196242
Abstract: A flame retardant plywood panel has one or more structural core layers sandwiched between front and back veneer layers. In the preferred embodiment, the veneer layers are coated with an unfired ceramic material which hardens when exposed to a flame and prevents the flame from igniting the core and veneer layers. Perforations are preferably provided in the back of the panel for the ventilation of steam and other gases generated in the panel by exposure to high temperature.
