  • Publication number: 20080275412
Abstract: An article, including disposable articles and durable articles, includes one or more shaped thermoplastic members, which can be at least partially impregnated into one or more fibrous substrates forming a composite material of the article having regions of breathability, elasticity, and/or stiffening to provide desired functions of the article. The shaped thermoplastic members have a profiled thickness and/or basis weight providing variation in material properties. A percent variation of the profiled thickness of the thermoplastic member can vary from about 5% to about 95%. A process for manufacturing the composite material of the present invention is also disclosed.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 11, 2008
    Publication date: November 6, 2008
Inventors: John C. Molander, David A. Wallack, Joseph H. Lam, Fred N. Desai, Urmish P. Dalal, Mark J. Kline
  • Patent number: 7217260
Abstract: Absorbent articles such as disposable diapers, incontinent briefs, diaper holders, training pants, and the like, that provide dynamic fit about the wearer by the use of extensible, outwardly extending side panels. The side panel includes at least one discontinuity for dividing the tensile force extending the side panel into a waist-directing force and a leg-directing force. The waist-directing force is transmitted by the side panel to the waist area of the article to maintain the waist area in a snug, but comfortable, fit against the waist of the wearer. The leg-directing force is transmitted by the side panel to the leg cuff area of the article to prevent leakage between the leg cuff and the wearer's leg.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 31, 2001
Date of Patent: May 15, 2007
Assignee: The Procter & Gamble Co.
Inventors: John C. Molander, Larry K. Johnson
  • Patent number: 6562166
Abstract: A method of achieving a workpiece material property change using a horn with a set of activation teeth as a source of ultrasonic energy and an anvil with a second set of activation teeth. The workpiece is engaged in tension between the two sets of activation teeth.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 11, 2001
Date of Patent: May 13, 2003
Assignee: The Procter & Gamble Company
Inventors: John C. Molander, D. Randell Greer
