  • Publication number: 20150057687
Abstract: An endovascular delivery system for forming a magnetic compression vascular anastomosis includes a first compressing element and a first catheter configured for advancement into a first cardiovascular structure. In one configuration, the first compressing element is removably secured within the first catheter and, in another configuration, the first compressing element is released from the first catheter and positioned within the first cardiovascular structure. The endovascular delivery system also includes a second compressing element and a second catheter configured for advancement into a second cardiovascular structure. In one configuration, the second compressing element is removably secured within the second catheter and, in another configuration, the second compressing element is released from the second catheter and positioned within the second cardiovascular structure.

  • Patent number: 8764774
Abstract: The present embodiments provide systems and methods for deploying at least one clip during a medical procedure. In one embodiment, the system comprises a clip having first and second arms. A locking pin is coupled to the clip and disposed for incremental movement relative to the clip. Further, a tether is coupled to the locking pin, wherein a first tether segment is secured to a distal region of the second arm, and a second tether segment is secured to a distal region of the first arm. In use, proximal retraction of the locking pin causes a proximal retraction of the first and second tether segments to move the clip between open and closed states. Incremental retraction of the locking pin incrementally advances the clip between the open and closed states.

  • Publication number: 20140180280
Abstract: A system for providing current to perform a surgical procedure includes an electrosurgical device having a conductive cutting wire and a power source with a power cord providing current to the cutting wire from a power source. The power cord and device are connected via a magnetic connection. The magnetic connection includes a device housing coupled to a cord housing, where a magnetic post is received in a recess for mechanically and electrically connecting the cutting wire and an active wire of the power cord. The recess and the magnetic post can be coaxial, with the axes being perpendicular to longitudinal axes of the device housing and the cord housing so that the connection can withstand a force exerted along the longitudinal axis, but a sufficient force transverse to the longitudinal axes and along the axes of the recess and the post can de-couple the magnetic connection.

  • Patent number: 8758264
Abstract: An expandable biopsy device and a method of obtaining a biopsy sample are provided. The expandable biopsy device includes an expandable portion including an expandable plate member and a cable operably connected to the expandable plate member. The expandable plate member has a substantially flattened configuration and an expanded configuration where the expanded configuration is longitudinally elongated relative to the flattened configuration. The flattened configuration has a first diameter. The expandable biopsy device also includes a cutting portion including a blade and a housing. The blade is positionable at least partially within the housing and the blade has a second diameter. The housing includes an opening and a cavity formed within housing. The second diameter of the blade is greater than the first diameter of the expandable plate member in the substantially flattened configuration.

  • Publication number: 20140163317
Abstract: A flexible lens is mounted to the end of an elongate medical device having a camera, such as an endoscope. The lens is generally solid and is made from a translucent, flexible, and resilient material. In a medical environment, the lens can be pressed against a vessel wall in a patient to enlarge the area viewed by the camera, and can further adapt to the shape of the wall to limit trauma on the patient. When pressed against the vessel wall, the lens can become longitudinally compressed, while becoming wider. The wider and compressed shape of the lens will push blood away from the viewing area to increase the clarity of the camera's field of view.
