  • Patent number: 7751778
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for improving data transmission rates in a wireless communication system. An example method may be implemented in a wireless communication system including a plurality of base stations defining a plurality of wireless coverage areas in which a mobile station can engage in radio frequency (RF) communication with the base stations where the method includes determining a location of the mobile station. Based on the determined location of the mobile station, the method further includes determining whether activating an inactive signal repeater would increase a rate at which data is able to be communicated from the base stations to the mobile station. In the event that that it is determined that activating the signal repeater would increase the rate at which data is able to be communicated, the method still further includes activating the signal repeater.

  • Patent number: 7551920
Abstract: A mobile station monitors received signal strength from a base transceiver station, either directly or by monitoring or some other measure of received signal quality, such as the ratio Ec/Io in a CDMA network. When the signal strength drops below a threshold, the mobile station is programmed to automatically send a feature code to the wireless network to activate unconditional call forwarding to a previously programmed directory number. When the mobile station re-enters the service network, i.e., the signal strength improves to an acceptable level or goes above the threshold, the mobile station automatically sends a feature code to turn off the unconditional call forwarding. Thereafter, incoming phone calls are directed to the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 7174187
Abstract: A multimodal wireless device, such as a cellular telephone, includes wireless transceivers which supports communication with remote devices in two different wireless protocols, for example, convention wireless cellular telephony in accordance with CDMA or GSM standards, and wireless communication in accordance with the Bluetooth standard and/or the IEEE 802.11 standard. The user of the wireless device selects which mode the device is to use when placing a call to a called party by inputing codes or characters into a dialing string. The wireless device detects the code or characters and responsively selects the designated transceiver to place the call to the receiver in the desired wireless communication mode.
