    Abstract: A combustion apparatus in a gas turbine engine comprises a combustor shell for receiving air, a fuel injection system associated with the combustor shell, a first fuel supply structure, and a shield structure. The fuel supply structure is in fluid communication with a source of fuel for delivering fuel from the source of fuel to the fuel injection system and comprises a first fuel supply elements including a first section extending along a first path having a component in an axial direction and a second section extending from the first section along a second path having a component in a circumferential direction. The shield structure is associated with at least a portion of the second section of the first fuel supply element.

    Abstract: A gas turbine engine (120) includes a cylindrical basket (146) having an axis (14) and a single main burner assembly (12) disposed within the basket. A burner insert (34) is disposed in an annular space between the burner assembly and the basket. The insert includes a face perpendicular to the axis of the basket. A plurality of passageways (114) are formed in the basket, positioned proximate to and downstream of the burner insert for allowing passage of a portion of an oxidizer flow (42) into a combustion chamber (30). A fluid flow path (38), defined between a combustion chamber liner portion (32) of the basket and a casing (40) spaced radially outward from the combustion liner portion, discharges a fluid into a flow reversal region (118) proximate an inlet (20) of the burner assembly. A fuel outlet (44) is disposed in the flow reversal region.

A catalyst 44 is carried by the catalyst support plate assemblies 34. Both of the opposing plates 36A, 36B may have ridges 38A, 38B with valleys 42A, 42B between adjacent ridges. A pair of opposing plates 36A, 36B may be aligned and connected at opposing ridges 38A, 38B so that opposing valleys 42A, 42B define air passageways having predetermined shapes. The catalyst support plate assemblies 34 may be arranged in back-to-back relation so that adjacent pairs of catalyst support plate assemblies 34 define fuel/air passageways 46. Adjacent pairs of catalyst support plate assemblies 34 may be offset from one another to define a nested configuration.

    Abstract: An internal swage fitting for swaging a tube. The fitting includes a tube connection region with one or more radial grooves and an expansion cavity at the end adjacent to the end of the tube to be swaged. The expansion cavity accommodates flowing tube material during the swaging process with minimal axial pressure on the fitting. The expansion cavity also includes a stop wall to fix the location of the tube in the fitting. The expansion cavity enables swaging of tube materials of relatively high ductility without accounting for setback. It therefore eliminates the need for a collar to establish setback during swaging.

    Abstract: An assembly for retaining a work piece and fitting together for placement in a swage machine. The assembly includes a die and a collar to keep the work piece from moving during the swaging process. The collar includes two clamping sections that are connected together, such as by a hinge. The collar is placed about the work piece and then clamped in place by a retaining bolt at the opposing end of the clamping sections. The die includes a recess for holding the collar and a recess for the tube. The assembly includes an anti-rotation feature to minimize rotation of the collar within the recess. One example of an anti-rotation feature is the formation of the recess and the collar in corresponding hexagonal shapes. The die may also include a recess for retaining a fitting to be swaged to the work piece. The die and collar assembly eliminates the need for nylon inserts and eliminates work piece rotation and axial movement during the automated swaging process.
