    Abstract: The invention provides methods for treating a smooth muscle cell disorder such as asthma, vascular injury, persistent pulmonary hypertension in the newborn, pulmonary hypertension in adults, megaureter, pyloric stenosis, uterine fibroids, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), cervical incompetence, or cancer, and methods for assessing smooth muscle tissue remodeling in a mammal by expressing CCN5 in a smooth muscle cell of the mammal, or by contacting the tissue directly with CCN5.
