  • Patent number: 10068562
Abstract: The dual-chamber whistle is a sound producing device that creates a first air flow, a second air flow and a third air flow within the dual-chamber whistle. The basic sound of the dual-chamber whistle is generated by a first turbulence created the interaction of the first air flow and the second air flow. The third air flow also interacts with both the first air flow and the second air flow to create a second turbulence. This second turbulence creates an additional sound called the oversound. While actual patterns of turbulences created in both the first turbulence and the second turbulence are essentially random, the human psychological response to the oversound is to interpret the oversound as an actual call for help. The dual-chamber whistle comprises an intake, an exhaust, and a router which creates a complex air flow.

  • Publication number: 20090008554
Abstract: An improved system for infrared (IR) imaging of terrain is disclosed wherein or or more IR cameras may be used at one or more locations to record images at multiple focal planes. The images are all taken of the same field of view but at varied focal planes. Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) may be used to track each camera location and each camera captures images of the object. Information regarding the orientation of the camera may also be measured. The digital information from the images from each camera at varying focal planes, the distance from the object to each camera, orientation of camera and the GPS location of each camera is transferred to a computer where the data is processed through the use of merging and photogrammetry software utilizing appropriate algorithms to convert the multiple images into a two-dimensional or three-dimensional image with improved depth of field.

  • Publication number: 20080111074
Abstract: A system for visual inspection of coated substrates is disclosed. Painted substrates can be inspected for environmental and physical damage such as corrosion and cracks without removing the paint through the use of infrared imaging. The present invention provides the ability to view abnormalities or defects in the substrate at an increased depth of field. This is accomplished by taking multiple images of the substrate at different focal planes then using computer software to merge the images. The merged image is in focus across the different focal planes and may also be viewed in three-dimensions.

  • Patent number: 5883921
Abstract: A digital data radio receiver and method evaluates a data signal preamble received on an antenna to determine whether the antenna should receive the data signal following the preamble. The receiver determines frequency offsets from a desired frequency for each symbol in a block of symbols in the preamble, determines the variance of the frequency offsets, determines the average magnitude of the symbols in the block of symbols, where the determination of average magnitude may be performed in parallel with the determination of variance of the frequency offsets, and evaluates the variance and the average magnitude for the block of symbols to determine whether the preamble is actually noise and to assess reception quality at the antenna. In a two antenna diversity receiver system, these steps may be performed first on a block of symbols received at one antenna and then performed on the next block of symbols received at another antenna.

  • Patent number: 5228449
Abstract: A monitoring system uses infrared photoplethysmography to monitor the pulse of a person wearing a wrist unit, and the wrist unit sends RF signals which describe his heart condition to a base unit. If the wrist unit detects a cardiac arrest or if the wearer manually signals an emergency, both the wrist and the base units sound local alarms. The base unit also telephones others outside of the user's home to alert them to the emergency. The wrist unit is designed to be fail-safe and to prevent false alarms. When the wrist unit fails to detect a pulse, it makes several further attempts to detect a pulse before signalling a cardiac arrest emergency. A prioritization and output activation circuit activates wrist unit outputs, including audio signals, an RF signal transmitter, and a display, according to a predetermined priority when more than one condition requiring a response exists.
