Patent number: 10079742Abstract: Systems and method for the management and processing of resource requests by a service provider, such as a content delivery network (“CDN”) service provider, on behalf of a content provider are provided. The CDN service provider can measure the performance associated with the delivery of resources to a requesting client computing devices from various computing devices associated with the CDN service provider. In one embodiment, a client computing device can execute code, such as scripts, that cause the client computing device to transmit requests to different computing devices associated with the CDN service provider's domain. Information associated with the processing of the responses can be used to measure CDN service provider latencies.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2012Date of Patent: September 18, 2018Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David R. Richardson, John Cormie, Colm MacCarthaigh, Benjamin W.S. Redman

Patent number: 10015237Abstract: A system and method for the management of client computing device DNS queries and subsequent resource requests within a content delivery network service provider domain are provided. The management of the DNS queries can include the selection of computing devices corresponding to various Point of Presence locations for processing DNS queries. Additionally, the management of the content requests can include the selection of computing devices corresponding to resource cache components corresponding to various Point of Presence locations for providing requested content. The selection of the computing devices can incorporate logic related to geographic criteria, testing criteria, and the like.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2015Date of Patent: July 3, 2018Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David R. Patent number: 9992303Abstract: A system, method, and computer-readable medium for request routing based on client location information are provided. A content delivery network service provider receives a DNS query from a client computing device. The DNS query corresponds to a resource identifier for requested content from the client computing device. The content delivery network service provider transmits an alternative resource identifier in response to the client computing device DNS query. The alternative resource identifier is selected as a function of client location information. The client location information is obtained from information corresponding to a mapping of at least partial IP addresses to known locations. The client computing device then issues a second DNS query to the same content delivery network service provider. The content delivery network service provider can then either resolve the second DNS query or transmit another alternative resource identifier.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2015Date of Patent: June 5, 2018Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David R. Richardson, John Cormie, Imran S. Patel, Benjamin W. S. Redman, Richard Sheehan

Patent number: 9985969Abstract: Techniques are described for managing access to computing-related resources that, for example, may enable multiple distinct parties to independently control access to the resources (e.g., such that a request to access a resource succeeds only if all of multiple associated parties approve that access). For example, an executing software application may, on behalf of an end user, make use of computing-related resources of one or more types that are provided by one or more remote third-party network services (e.g., data storage services provided by an online storage service)—in such a situation, both the developer user who created the software application and the end user may be allowed to independently specify access rights for one or more particular such computing-related resources (e.g., stored data files), such that neither the end user nor the software application developer user may later access those resources without the approval of the other party.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2013Date of Patent: May 29, 2018Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Mark Joseph Cavage, John Cormie, Nathan R. Fitch, Don Johnson, Peter Sirota

Patent number: 9800539Abstract: Systems and methods for managing requesting routing functionality associated with resource requests for one or more resources associated with a content provider are provided. A content delivery network (“CDN”) service provider, on behalf of a content provider, can process domain name service (“DNS”) requests for resources by computing devices and resolve the DNS requests by the identification of a network address of a computing device that will provide the requested resources. Based on the processing of DNS queries initiated by a client computing device, the CDN service provider can measure CDN service provider latencies associated with the generation of DNS requests by network components associated with the client computing devices. Examples of the network components can include DNS resolvers associated with the client computing device.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2015Date of Patent: October 24, 2017Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David R. Patent number: 9794216Abstract: A system, methods, and interfaces for managing request routing functionality associated with resource requests for one or more resources associated with a content provider. The request routing functionality can correspond to the processing of domain name service (“DNS”) requests for resources by computing devices and the resolution of the DNS requests by the identification of a network address of a computing device that will provide the requested resources. Unlike traditional CDN service provider implementation, the processing of resource requests by the service provider is separate from the delivery of the content by the content provider (or on behalf of the content provider).Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2015Date of Patent: October 17, 2017Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David R. Publication number: 20170250821Abstract: A system, method, and computer readable medium for managing secure content by CDN service providers are provided. A network storage provider stores one or more resources on behalf of a content provider. A CDN service provider obtains client computing device requests for secure content. Based on processing first signature information, the CDN service provider determines whether the secure content is available to the client computing device. If the CDN service provider does not maintain the requested content, the CDN service provider transmits a request to the network storage provider. Based on second signature information and an identifier associated with the CDN service provider, the network storage provider processes the request based policy information associated with the identifier.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2017Publication date: August 31, 2017Inventors: David R. Patent number: 9479476Abstract: A system, method and computer-readable medium for request routing. A client request processing a resource identifier for requested content transmits a first DNS query to a content delivery network service provider. The content delivery network service provider transmits an alternative resource identifier in response to the client computing device DNS query. The client computing device then issues a second DNS query to the same content delivery network service provider. The content delivery network service provider can then either resolve the second DNS query with an IP address of a cache component or transmit another alternative resource identifier that will resolve to the content delivery network service provider. The process can repeat with the content delivery network service provider's network until a DNS server resolves a DNS query from the client computing device.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2012Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David R. Patent number: 9264358Abstract: Generally described, the present disclosure is directed to managing request routing functionality corresponding to resource requests for one or more resources associated with a content provider. A service provider may assign an alias resource records that point to another alias resource record or to an IP address. A DNS server of the service provider may receive a request to resolve a DNS query for a domain for which the DNS server is authoritative. The DNS server determine that the DNS query corresponds to an alias record and may resolve the DNS query according to the data of the alias record.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2014Date of Patent: February 16, 2016Assignee: AMAZON TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Darren H.
