  • Patent number: 5480984
Abstract: Hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), hydrophobically modified hydroxyethylcellulose (HMHEC), hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC), methylhydroxypropylcellulose (MHPC), carboxymethylhydroxyethylcellulose (CMHEC), guar, starch, xanthan, hydroxypropylguar (HP Guar) or carboxymethylhydroxypropylguar (CMHP Guar) are stepwise or continuously reacted with hydrogen peroxide to produce aqueous compositions with a solids content greater than 5% by weight at a viscosity at 25.degree. C. below 9500 mPa.s. It is preferred to use 30 to 50% hydrogen peroxide to depolymerize the polysaccharide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 11, 1992
Date of Patent: January 2, 1996
    Assignee: Aqualon Company
Inventors: John D. Angerer, Jashawant J. Modi, Robert C. Szafranski
  • Patent number: 5290829
Abstract: A purified hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) or hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) reacts with a perfluorinated alkyl glycidyl ether to produce an associative thickener wherein a fluorinated C.sub.8 chain is nearly as effective as a hydrocarbyl C.sub.16 straight chain hydrophobe. A preferred glycidyl ether is prepared by reacting a terminal hydroxyl of a perfluorinated surfactant with epichlorohydrin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 2, 1992
Date of Patent: March 1, 1994
    Assignee: Aqualon Company
Inventors: John D. Angerer, Thomas G. Majewicz, Makram H. Meshreki
  • Patent number: 4902733
