Publication number: 20140198618Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for determining room dimensions and layout. A method includes receiving an audio signal from at least one other detection apparatus. The method includes determining a spatial orientation of a detection apparatus along a substantially planar surface. The method includes calculating at least one dimension along the planar surface based in part on the received audio signal and the determined spatial orientation of the detection apparatus. Methods and apparatus are provided for determining room layout. The method includes detecting a mobile object in a first room. The method includes receiving an indication of detection of the mobile object in a second room subsequent to the detection in the first room. The method includes providing an indication that the first and second rooms are adjacent rooms based on the detection of the mobile object in the second room subsequent to the detection in the first room.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 13, 2013Publication date: July 17, 2014Applicant: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventors: James B. Publication number: 20140156281Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for configuring control of an automation system for a home or other space, using audio input to a controller. Activation of an appliance in the automation system initiates the providing of the capabilities of the appliance to the controller and a data collection process via an audible interface. Audible user input is converted to an audio signal, and then processed by the controller to determine control input for the appliance. The audible input may also be used for user authentication. Subsequently, the controller controls the appliance based on the control input.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 3, 2012Publication date: June 5, 2014Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: John D. Patent number: 8620994Abstract: Described are various mechanisms and techniques for influencing or controlling a content update schedule for a content-based software application on a mobile device. A content server issues one or more commands to the mobile device that establish a content update schedule for the mobile device. The mobile device then performs content update sessions with the content server based on that schedule. During any one or more refresh sessions, the content server delivers another command to establish a new content update schedule. This system provides the advantage of allowing the content server to regulate how frequently the mobile device retrieves new content.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2006Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: John D. Boyd, Jasmit Singh Kochhar, Laurence Lundblade, Sanika Kapoor
