    Abstract: An improved process is disclosed which is useful in separating the catalyst residue from a polyphenylene ether reaction solution. The process is based on the use of an extracting agent in a liquid-liquid extraction process wherein the aqueous extraction phase is maintained in a continuous phase while the organic phase is maintained as a discrete phase.
