  • Patent number: 4657286
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a tube coupling having a hollow tubular body having collet form couplings at either end thereof to receive and lock tubes in the body at either end. The body has an internal annular wall and an inner lines which extends over the wall shoulder and along the body to either side of the annular wall shoulder towards the locations of the collets. The liner is formed from a material which is inert to the fluid to be passed through the tubes and has integral annular seals to seal with the tubes inserted in the body to prevent loss of fluid from the tubes into parts of the body not covered by the liner.

  • Patent number: 4650529
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a quick release tube couplings in which a collet with resilient arms is arranged to co-operate with a tapering cam surface in a member surrounding the collet to force the arms to grip a tube within the collet. The member is formed from two, male and female parts each having a bore, the male part bore being tapered to provide the cam surface. The male and female parts are assembled with a pair of annular surfaces on the respective parts spaced apart by an edge or projection on one of the surfaces and ultrasonic vibration is applied to soften the ridge to cause the surfaces to weld together and to allow two other opposed annular surfaces to come together and be welded by said ultrasonic vibration to weld the two parts together at two spaced annular regions.

  • Patent number: 4645246
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a tap or valve body (10) having a bore (11) to receive a tube which is locked in the bore by means of a collet form tube coupling (21) and is sealed to the bore by O-ring seals 17, 18. The collet is encircled by a plastics insert sleeve (22) located in a counter-bore (19) at the end of bore 11 and held therein by a spring ring (39) embedded in the sleeve. The insert sleeve has a tapered bore (27) which converges towards the end of the tape or valve body and with which resilient fingers (32) of the collet engage to be compressed around the tube by the convergent bore to grip and hold the tube in the body.

  • Patent number: 4637636
Abstract: The disclosure relates to tube couplings in which a hollow body (10) has an opening (11) to receive a tube (15) and a collet (32) having resilient arms encircling the tube in the body to grip the tube. An annular cam (22) is mounted in the body and has a tapered internal cam surface (31) engaged by the collet arms (33) which reduces towards the open end of the body to increase compression of the arms against the tube as the collet is drawn towards the open end of the body to lock the tube in the body. The cam member (27) is mounted in the body for axial adjustment with respect to the body, for example by a screw engagement (28) in the body, to enable the cam to be adjusted with respect to the collet to vary the compressive force applied to the resilient arms.

  • Patent number: 4606783
Abstract: In a tube coupling of the kind comprising a body member with a bore having an axially tapered portion, a collet having arms extending into said portion of the bore, the tapered portion being such that axially outward movement of the collet arms engaging the tapered portion causes the collet arms to be pressed inwardly for gripping a tube in the bore, the body member is formed of inner and outer parts, at least the inner part being of plastics material which is, by ultrasonic vibrations, caused to enter into recesses, grooves, serrations or the like in an outer part.

  • Patent number: 4573716
Abstract: In a tube coupling of the kind having a collet for gripping a tube within a body member, the collet having arms co-operating with a tapered bore in the body member so that a pull on the tube pulls the collet outwardly and so causes the collet arms to grip the tube more firmly, and wherein the tube can be released from the coupling by axial inward pressure on a head on the collet, accidental release of the tube is prevented by an end cover through which the tube passes and which surrounds the collet head, the end cover resiliently engaging in the body member.

  • Patent number: 4178023
Abstract: A tube coupling, of the kind having a collet in a bore in a body member, the collet arms having cam surfaces co-operating with an internal surface on the bore so that the collet arms are forced radially inwardly to grip a tube in the collet if the latter is pulled in a direction outwardly of the bore, has the collet moulded of plastics material. Projections intermediate the ends of each collet arm are provided to grip the tube and the arms are shaped so that their portions inwardly of the bore beyond the projections also bear against the tube, thereby spreading the gripping force along part of the length of the tube and so preventing the tube from deforming and pulling out even if the tube is of resilient material.
