  • Patent number: 5692679
Abstract: An air purging system for an oil burner system having at least one fuel burner nozzle is disclosed. The system has a pump having an inlet communicating with the fuel source and an outlet. A control valve is provided for regulating the pressure of the fuel supplied from the pump to the at least one fuel burner nozzle. A control valve has an inlet passage for receiving high pressure fuel from the outlet of the pump, an outlet passage for delivering fuel to the at least one fuel burner nozzles, and a return passage for permitting high pressure fuel not supplied to the one or more fuel burner nozzles to return to the fuel source. The system includes a passageway connecting the pump outlet and the control valve inlet. An air purging assembly is connected on one end to the pump outlet with the other end in communication with the fuel source.

  • Patent number: 5424554
Abstract: Improved apparatus and method for selectively monitoring the light intensity emitted from an oil-burner flame for purposes of determining when the burner is in need of preventative maintenance. The apparatus features a monitoring system including: a sensor for detecting burner, flame-light intensity; a comparator for comparing the light intensity sensed to predetermined upper and lower limits; a display for indicating whether the burner is operating acceptably or whether it requires maintenance; and a discriminator for selectively coupling out-of-range, intensity indications representative of a need for maintenance to the display. The discriminator includes measurement-threshold circuitry for determining whether the burner has successfully ignited and whether the flame generated has been sustained long enough to assure thermal stabilization.

  • Patent number: 4765308
Abstract: A venting system using natural convection cooling is disclosed in which a sleeve is inserted within a flue pipe. The annulus between that sleeve and the flue pipe is sealed at an inside end and the flue pipe is provided with a plurality of vent holes in the periphery of its outer end, which is positioned outside a building. That annulus forms a cooling passage and outside air is drawn through the annulus by a natural convection process to dramatically lower the flue pipe temperature. The outer end of that sleeve is open to a vent hood. An outer wall sleeve is also positioned around the flue pipe and sealed at one end in order to form an annulus containing an insulating air layer. That reduces the heat conduction to the outer wall sleeve, substantially reducing the outer wall sleeve temperature. The venting system also includes a vent hood having a double hood in which the outermost hood is spaced from the inner one.

  • Patent number: 4425875
Abstract: A combustion chamber and liner for use in a wound boiler formed from a heat exchanger slab rolled into a plurality of wound heat exchanger convolutions, the inner heat exchanger convolutions defining a space in which a sized and shaped elongated hollow cylindrical member defining the fire box is removably mounted and in assembled position forms an inner annular combustion gas flow passage disposed to communicate with an outer combustion gas flow passage, the cylindrical member has means to position and orient the cylindrical member in assembled position so that a top inlet in the wall of the cylindrical member in association with an aligning and guide member will pass combustion gases from the fire box into the inner combustion gas flow passage, in a direction counter to the flow of combustion in the fire box, and the outer combustion gas flow passage is disposed to communicate with a suitable flue or discharge outlet to pass residual combustion gases to waste.
