  • Publication number: 20240018073
Abstract: A process for treating a heavy byproduct stream from an initial chlorinated propane forming reaction in order to increase the final output of chlorinated propene and remove metal catalyst. In particular, the process disclosed herein provides for a primary stream in which chlorinated propanes are converted to chlorinated propenes in a catalytic dehydrochlorination reaction, while also treating a separate byproduct stream with a caustic to precipitate metal from a metal catalyst and convert any remaining chlorinated propanes to chlorinated propenes in order to increase final chlorinated propene output.

  • Publication number: 20230348345
Abstract: A processes for preparing 1,1,2,3-tetrachloropropene, 2,3,3,3-tetrachloropropene, or a mixture thereof from 1,3-dichloropropene. The process may include a two successive chlorination and dehydrochlorination reactions. Ina first chlorination reaction 1,3-dichloropropene is reacted with a chlorination agent to form a first chlorination reaction product including 1,1,2,3-tetrachloropropane. This first chlorination reaction product is reacted with a dehydrochlorination reagent in a first dehydrochlorination reaction to form a first dehydrochlorination reaction product including a trichloropropene. The trichloropropene containing reaction product is reacted with a chlorination agent in a second chlorination reaction to form a second chlorination reaction product including at least one of 1,1,1,2,3-pentachloropropane or 1,1,2,2,3-pentachloropropane.

  • Patent number: 11192840
Abstract: The present invention provides highly efficient processes for the preparation of chlorinated alkanes. The processes comprise contacting an alkene, halogenated alkene, or combinations thereof, a halogenated methane comprising at least one chlorine atom, at least one solid metallic catalyst, and a ligand forming a reaction mixture in a reactor. The product mixture does not contain a phase transfer catalyst. After a product mixture is formed, various fractions, distillation streams, and effluent streams are separated and/or treated with an aqueous alkaline substance. This treatment removes at least a portion of the metal and through recycling of the heavy fraction, treated product mixture, or combinations thereof, allows for the kinetics of the process to be maintained or increased.

  • Publication number: 20210078923
Abstract: The present invention provides improved processes for preparing halogenated alkanes. The processes comprise contacting at least one alkene, a halogenated alkene, or combinations thereof with a halogenated methane with at least one chlorine atom to form a liquid phase. This liquid phase is then contacted with at least one catalytic species which initiates the reaction with at least one alkene, a halogenated alkene, or combinations thereof with a halogenated methane with at least one chlorine atoms.

  • Patent number: 10329226
Abstract: The present invention provides processes for the production of chlorinated methanes via the direct chlorination of methane. The processes include a dehydrochlorination and/or chlorination step that converts up to 100% of the higher chlorinated alkanes in a process stream from the methane chlorination reaction into more highly chlorinated alkanes. These more highly chlorinated alkanes can be easily removed from the process stream. The use of a cost effective feedstream of crude methane is thus rendered possible, without additional capital expenditure for the sophisticated separation equipment required to separate ethane and other hydrocarbon components from the methane feed.
