  • Publication number: 20240094120
Abstract: This invention relates to the preparation of N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine (“glyphosate”) from N-(phosphonomethyl)iminodiacetic acid (“PMIDA”), and more particularly to methods for control of the conversion of PMIDA, for the identification of reaction end points relating to PMIDA conversion and the preparation of glyphosate products having controlled PMIDA content.

  • Patent number: 6225621
Abstract: A laser diode (22) emits laser light which is collimated into parallel rays with collimating lens (24). The collimated beams travels as much as 50 meters or more before being reflected back to a photoreceiver (28). A ball lens (26) focuses the reflected light onto the photoreceiver. The photoreceiver, preferably, is a synchronous detector which issues control pulses to a laser drive circuit (42) for causing the laser diode to emit intermittent bursts of laser light. The synchronous detector then compares the timing of received light with the timing of the control pulses to the laser diode to distinguish between true reflected light and stray light. An intensity adjustment (56) adjusts the intensity of the laser light in accordance with a distance between the laser diode/photoreceiver and a reflector. In this manner, distances of 1-70 meters can be accommodated with no lens modification.

  • Patent number: 5124554
Abstract: Apparatus for non-invasively inspecting an object, such as an item of luggage, for explosives material comprises a multi-channel thermal neutron inspection system having a plurality of neutron irradiation chambers. Simultaneous operation of several channels increases maximum system throughout several times. Each chamber has a lithium neutron source which is stimulated to neutron production by a proton beam. Beam switching magnets are energized by pulsing to divert a common proton beam to each source in turn. The initial beam is generated by a radio frequency quadrupole accelerator. The advantages of this system are very low residual source activity and controllable neutron production thereby minimizing safety hazards. The irradiation chamber may contain several different gamma ray detectors to identify the presence elements present in explosives material. In addition a neutron radiography imaging means may be employed to identify the presence of potential shielding materials.

  • Patent number: 4627537
Abstract: A vacuum-formed lid for a large drinks container is disclosed made from extruded sheet plastic. The lid has provision for the user to remove a tear-out portion to leave a hole through which liquid may be poured out of the container. The lid includes a ridge which is gripped between finger and thumb. A slit is located just under the thumb, so that squeezing the ridge is effective to open the slit. The slit runs across the "grain" of the extruded plastic. The effect is that tearing the lid can be easily accomplished, yet the tear may be directed and controlled easily.
