  • Patent number: 4276063
Abstract: Fully chlorinated and/or fluorinated hydrocarbons are used as gas scrubbing liquids for preventing noxious gas emissions to the atmosphere.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 21, 1977
Date of Patent: June 30, 1981
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of Energy
Inventors: Walter J. Lackey, Robert S. Lowrie, John D. Sease
  • Patent number: 4098408
Abstract: An automatic inspection system is provided for determining surface defects on cylindrical objects such as nuclear fuel pellets or rods. The active element of the system is a compound ring having a plurality of pneumatic jet units directed into a central bore. These jet units are connected to provide multiple circuits, each circuit being provided with a pressure sensor. The outputs of the sensors are fed to a comparator circuit whereby a signal is generated when the difference of pressure between pneumatic circuits, caused by a defect, exceeds a pre-set amount. This signal may be used to divert the piece being inspected into a "reject" storage bin or the like.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 22, 1977
Date of Patent: July 4, 1978
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of Energy
Inventors: William H. Miller, Jr., John D. Sease, William R. Hamel, Ronnie A. Bradley
  • Patent number: 4068015
Abstract: Carbon-coated microspheroids useful as fuels in nuclear reactors are produced with a low percentage of cracked coatings and are imparted increased strength and mechanical stability characteristics by annealing immediately after the carbon coating processes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 4, 1976
Date of Patent: January 10, 1978
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Energy Research and Development Administration
Inventors: Walter J. Lackey, Jr., John D. Sease
  • Patent number: 3960994
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for the preparation of high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) fuel elements wherein uncarbonized fuel rods are inserted in appropriate channels of an HTGR fuel element block and the entire block is inserted in an autoclave for in situ carbonization under high pressure. The method is particularly applicable to remote handling techniques.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 26, 1974
Date of Patent: June 1, 1976
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Energy Research and Development Administration
Inventors: Ronnie A. Bradley, John D. Sease
