  • Patent number: 5587381
Abstract: A method is provided for effectively terminating methadone maintenance therapy and the addiction to other legally-available opiates by selectively extinguishing the opiate-taking responses. Selective extinction is produced having sessions in which detoxified addicts make opiate-taking responses while an opiate antagonist blocks the positive reinforcement, interspersed by periods when the antagonist is absent and all responses except opiate-taking can be emitted. A similar method but with instructions not to take the opiate can subsequently be used to protect against resumption of illegal opiate use, or separately with patients addicted to illegal opiates producing reinforcement through the opioidergic system.

  • Patent number: 5470893
Abstract: Powder coating composition, prepared by process comprising the steps of providing a primary film-forming component and one or more other, different, components selected from film-forming components and non-film-forming components, each said component consisting of solid particles and each particle of said primary film-forming component comprising a solid polymeric binder system at least a portion of which is a film-forming resin in an amount sufficient to impart film forming properties to the composition, the particles of said other, different, components containing at least one substance that, when processed into a coating with said primary film-forming component, provides with said primary film-forming component said desired appearance or performance attribute to said coating, provided that, if the agglomerate contains a metallic or luster component and a fluidizable film-forming component, it also contains an incompatible film-forming component or a non-film-forming performance component, or two or more su

  • Patent number: 5319001
Abstract: A coloured powder coating composition consists of solid particles, each of which comprises a solid polymeric binder system and at least a majority of which contain at least one colouring agent. The composition is a mixture of particles of at least two different colours. The size of the particles is sufficiently low that when the powder coating is applied to a substrate and heated to form a continuous coating the differences in colour in the cured powder coating arising from the different coloured particles cannot be discerned by the human eye. The size of the particles is preferably below 10 microns in the largest dimension. The particles are preferably agglomerated into composite particles of mean particle size 15 to 75 microns for application by electrostatic spray.

  • Patent number: 5096715
Abstract: A method for treating alcoholism by extinguishing the alcohol-drinking response in which an opiate antagonist is transdermally administered to a subject and a device for transdermally administering the antagonist. The device is a package containing a fixed dose of opiate antagonist, a vehicle and a permeation enhancer.

  • Patent number: 5086058
Abstract: A method for treating alcoholism. The alcohol-drinking response of alcoholics is extinguished by having them drink alcoholic beverages while nalmefene, an opiate antagonist, blocks the positive reinforcement effect of ethanol in the brain.

  • Patent number: 4882335
Abstract: A therapeutic method is provided for use as an adjunct in the treatment of alcoholism. The method consists of extinguishing the alcohol-drinking response of alcoholics during a relatively short period of time by having them drink alcoholic beverage repeatedly while an opiate antagonist blocks the positive reinforcement effects of ethanol in the brain.
