  • Patent number: 5497038
Abstract: A voltage propulsion drive coil assembly for a linear motor propulsion system for powering and propelling a magnetic levitation train in a track. The linear motor propulsion system includes at least one moving magnet assembly formed of a plurality of uniformly spaced pole ends with alternating magnetic polarity. The drive coil assembly includes a plurality of coils, each coil at least as long as the length of the magnet assembly and each coil at least as wide as the width of the magnet assembly. The coils and the magnet assembly are aligned lengthwise and arranged so that a constant number of coils is cut by magnetic flux lines at any given time. The coils comprise wire wound a predetermined number of turns. The number of turns in a coil is: (i) inversely proportional to the speed the train is expected to travel at that point on the track and (ii) directly proportional to the force required to propel the train at that point on the track.

  • Patent number: 5394807
Abstract: A power drive system for use in a linear motor propulsion system for powering and propelling a train of a predetermined length along a track. The power drive system includes a plurality of drive coils spaced along the track electrically connected together to form a set of coils. The distance along the track between adjacent coils in a set is greater than the train length. A plurality of sets of coils are interdigitated with each other, with the distance between adjacent coils from different sets spaced closely together to provide that a group of coils, each from different sets is adjacent the train at all locations along the track. The drive system also includes a plurality of inverters, each inverter connected to a set of coils.

  • Patent number: 5051685
Abstract: A waveform corrector for providing correction to three-phase electrical power to correct for transient and harmonic distortion arising from electrical power cable reactance wherein the cable head end voltage and current are sensed without load end voltage or current sensing. Phase and neutral current values are sensed and corrected with predetermined values of cable resistance and inductance to provide a corrected sine wave voltage at the load end of the cable achieved by inserting a dynamic correction voltage in series with the electrical output of the waveform corrector.
