  • Patent number: 6419502
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly (1) for connecting to a cable includes a first connector (10), a second connector (20) mateable with the first connector, and a PCB (30). The first connector comprises a first housing (12) and a plurality of contacts (14) retained in the first housing. The contacts have mating portions (142) arranged in a single row for engaging with a corresponding terminal (24) of the second connector, and soldering portions (144) arranged in upper and lower rows for connecting to circuit traces (32, 36) of the PCB. The soldering portions are arranged in adjacent groups of three having a fine pitch for being soldered to corresponding circuit traces. Rows of second and fourth circuit traces (34, 38) are also formed on the PCB, having a larger spacing than the fine pitch of the soldering portions for facilitating soldering of corresponding conductors of the cable thereto.

  • Patent number: 6296496
Abstract: An electrical connector (1) comprises a die-cast metal housing (10) and a pair of terminal inserts (40) received in the housing. Each terminal insert includes a first terminal core (401) and a second terminal core (402), each terminal core having a plurality of signal contacts (20) insert-molded therein. A pair of ground plates (30) is sandwiched between the first and second terminal cores. Each ground plate forms a plurality of ground tails (31) extending out of the housing and alternatingly bending upwardly and downwardly to form a space for straddle mounting a PCB (2) therebetween. The signal contacts have contact tails (25) coplanar with the ground tails for straddle mounting to the PCB. The PCB forms a plurality of signal pads (55) and ground pads (57) both on an upper face (52) and a lower face (54) thereof for respectively electrically engaging with the signal contacts and the ground plates.

  • Patent number: 6231355
Abstract: An electrical connector comprises a die cast housing defining a receiving space therein. A connector insert is inserted into the receiving space and includes a first half integrally formed therewith a plurality of first terminals, and a second half mated with the first half and integrally formed with a plurality of second terminals which are symmetrically aligned with the first terminals. Each of the first and second terminals includes a body portion enclosed within the corresponding half, and a mating portion extending beyond the block and a tail portion extending opposite the mating portion. Retaining posts and recesses are formed between the first and second blocks to fixedly secure the first and second blocks together. A grounding bus is sandwiched between the first and second blocks. The ground bus includes a plurality of pin legs having a needle-eye thereon.

  • Patent number: 6109950
Abstract: An IDC connector having a terminator thereon comprises a dielectric housing having an array of terminals assembled within the housing. Each terminal includes an insulation displacement section extending beyond a mating face of the housing. A cover is assembled to the mating face for terminating a flat flexible cable to the insulation displacement sections. A terminator is electrically connected to a free end of the flat flexible cable. The terminator is assembled to the cover. A cap enclosing the terminator therein is assembled to the housing.
