  • Patent number: 11962876
Abstract: A plastic item, such as a beverage bottle, conveys two distinct digital watermarks, encoded using two distinct signaling protocols. A first, printed label watermark conveys a retailing payload, including a Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) used by a point-of-sale scanner in a retail store to identify and price the item when presented for checkout. A second, plastic texture watermark conveys a recycling payload, including data identifying the composition of the plastic. The use of two different signaling protocols assures that a point-of-sale scanner will not spend its limited time and computational resources working to decode the recycling watermark, which lacks the data needed for retail checkout. In some embodiments, a recycling apparatus makes advantageous use of both types of watermarks to identify the plastic composition of the item (e.g., relating GTIN to plastic type using an associated database), thereby increasing the fraction of items that are correctly identified for sorting and recycling.

  • Publication number: 20110187018
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved process for controlling the amount of crosslinking in polyolefin based articles such as fibers or films. The invention relates to mixing silane grafted material together with ungrafted material prior to crosslinking. The article can then be formed and cured, optionally with a curing catalyst which can preferably be applied to the surface of a shaped article. The amount of crosslinking will be controlled in part by the level of silane grafting on the grafted silane material as well as the amount of the grafted material in the blend.

  • Publication number: 20090264584
Abstract: An improved process for crosslinking a polyolefin polymer is described. The process involves grafting a silane material onto the polyolefin based polymer in the presence of a free radical generating initiator material and then hydrolyzing the silane material to form crosslinks. By using an effective molar ratio of silane material to free radical of 40 or greater in the grafting reaction, premature crosslinking is controlled and the grafted polymer can be shaped first and then crosslinked. In another aspect of the invention, the crosslinking process is improved by adding a catalyst for the hydrolysis catalyst to the surface of a shaped article made from the grafted polymer. Grafted polymer and articles made from the grafted polymer, particularly fibers, are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6550771
Abstract: A method of playing an object selection game (20), includes providing a set of objects containing a plurality of different individual objects, wherein each individual object has an order value in accordance with an ordering rule. A subset of the set of objects is dealt to a player in accordance with a dealing rule. A portion of the subset of objects is revealed to the player in accordance with a revealing rule. The player then selects any previously unselected object from the subset of objects in accordance with a selecting rule. After each selection, a terminating rule is used to test whether play shall stop, or whether additional objects are selected. The terminating rule stops play if objects are not selected in proper sequential order in accordance with the ordering rule. After play is stopped, a score is computed in accordance with a scoring rule. In preferred embodiments, the set of objects are playing cards, and a wager is placed on the outcome of the game.

  • Patent number: 6324680
Abstract: A method for synthesizing aggregate data types, in accordance with the present invention, includes representing aggregate data types in a control data flow graph, by representing aggregate objects as operand nodes, and operations on the aggregate objects as operation nodes. One-dimensional bit vectors are formed for the operand nodes, by recursively traversing through fields of the aggregate data type associated with the aggregate objects. Read and write operation nodes are formed in the control data flow graph for representing language constructs for accessing the aggregate objects. The control data flow graph is mapped onto hardware.
