  • Patent number: 7200935
Abstract: Improved work roll, particularly for use in closed gap rolling, has a composite structure comprising a cylindrical outer layer (14) made of steel, and providing the work surface of the roll, separated from a steel core (12) by an intermediate layer (13) of material such as aluminium or copper having a lower Young's modules than that of the layer (14). Provided that the dimensions of the outer layer (14) and intermediate layer (13) are chosen appropriately, this combination can release a work roll having an affective Young's modules which is lower than that of steel whilst at the same time retaining the advantages of a steel work surface and enabling higher rolling speeds.

  • Publication number: 20060232993
Abstract: Luminaire with directional side-light extraction comprises a light pipe with a light-carrying core, and with a light-extraction structure along a first longitudinal side of the luminaire, confined to a radial swath of the luminaire, along the longitudinal axis of the luminaire, of substantially less than 180°. The second end has light-saving structure for directing saved light from the second end towards the first end, at redirection angles other than an excluded range of redirection angles, so long as the photon content of light at so-called alpha redirection angles is at least 10 percent of the photon content of light at so-called beta redirection angles, where the excluded range of redirection angles is defined by a mathematical formula. The light-extraction means is adjustable to accommodate angular distributions of light from various light sources.

  • Publication number: 20060002136
Abstract: An adjustable-aim light pipe fixture, comprising a generally spherical eyeball for receiving an end of a light pipe is disclosed. The eyeball has a longitudinal axis coincident with a longitudinal axis of that portion of the light pipe that is received in the eyeball. A socket holds the eyeball. The socket comprises a first retainer ring and a second retainer ring. Each retainer ring has an interior surface with contact points to an outer surface of the eyeball. The first and second retainer rings are oriented with respect to each other so as to hold the eyeball in a fixed position when the first and second rings are pressed towards each other. Clamping structure clamps the first and second rings against each other in such manner as to hold the eyeball in fixed relation to the first retainer ring.

The light pipe has light-extraction structure along a first longitudinal side of the luminaire, which is confined to a radial swath of the luminaire, along the longitudinal axis of the luminaire, of substantially less than 180°. • Patent number: 6763596
Abstract: This invention is directed to a novel, portable, self-powered laser alignment device which can simultaneously generate plumb, square and level laser reference points. The laser alignment device is comprised of a main body that is pendulously suspended from a unit housing. The main body is adapted to house a plurality of orthogonally oriented laser diodes that, when energized, produce a plurality of orthogonal output beams to allow the operator to easily mark plumb, square and level reference points. The laser alignment device is self-leveling, which eliminates the time consuming calibration previously required for instrument setup. The movement of the main body is dampened by use of a magnetic dampening system that is comprised of a non-magnetic metallic plate, which is passed through a permanent magnetic field. The housing of the laser alignment device contains the main body, the laser diodes, the dampening system and a power supply to energize the diodes.

  • Publication number: 20020017344
Abstract: A method of producing a sheet article or other elongated product of solution heat treated aluminum alloy substantially free of permanent thermal distortion. The method involves subjecting an article made of a heat-treatable aluminum alloy to a solution heat treatment, cooling the article in a gas from the solutionizing temperature to an upper critical temperature below which precipitation of second phase particles of the alloy may occur, further cooling the article in a gas/liquid from the upper temperature to a lower critical temperature below which precipitation of the components may no longer occur, and optionally additionally cooling the article to a temperature below the lower critical temperature. The cooling of the article in the gas is carried out at a rate of cooling at which the yield strength of the article remains high enough to resist permanent deformation caused by thermal stress generated within the article by the cooling.

  • Patent number: 5890773
Abstract: The present invention relates to an expandable ring system for attaching a wheel liner to a wheel. The wheel liner has clips attached to it. Through these clips, there is sliceable placed a ring. The ring surrounds all but one of the lug nuts and lies within the offset along an outer circumference of the lug nuts. However, the ring loops into the inner circumference of proximal one of the lug nuts to lengthen or shorten the ring. The ring can then be crimped to tighten the ring against the lug nuts. A spring can also be provided to surround all of the lug nuts along the outer circumference. Prior to placing the wheel liner on the wheel, the ring can be set at the desired length so that it frictionally fits over the desired lug nuts.

  • Patent number: 5722735
Abstract: The present system discloses a universal wheel trim attachment system in which a wheel liner is attached to a wheel under the wheel lug nuts. Universal wheel trim attachment system has a center piece which can act as a hub cover. Surrounding the opening is a plateau on substantially an X-axis and perpendicular to a Y-axis. Around the plateau there is placed a first incline. Around the first incline there is placed a ledge which merely shows the change in direction between a first incline and a second incline which surrounds the first incline. A valley surrounds the second incline. A ridge surrounds the valley. A lip surrounds the ridge and rests upon the outer portions of the wheel. The wheel liners are also provided with lug holes, oval holes, and hand holes.

  • Patent number: 5695257
Abstract: The present invention discloses a wheel trim attachment system that uses a continuous attachment ring having mounting brackets which are pivotally and/or slidably attached to it thereby allowing it to be adjustable for different configurations of wheels. Additionally, the pivoting allows use for either a large diameter such as a spoked wheel or a small diameter such as a standard wheel. The attachment bracket receives an existing lug. Jam nuts are then placed over the bracket to hold the attachment bracket onto the existing lugs. Attachment screws are placed through holes in the liner and are received by mounting lips attached to the attachment ring to coordinate and correspond to the holes in the liner.

  • Patent number: 5676430
Abstract: The present invention discloses a device for attaching a wheel liner to a wheel having a hub. In both preferred embodiments, a spring clip is attached to a hub. The spring clip then has a biased finger which can engage a hub cover fictionally and hold it in place. However, this biased finger also allows the hub cover to be easily removed. In the first preferred embodiment, the spring clip is attached either at a screw on the hub, under a ring attached to the screws on the hub, or attached to the screws under a ring on the hub. The second embodiment attaches to a lip of the hub.
