    Abstract: The invention relates to SSL7 mutants which have no, or at least reduced, ability to bind to IgA. The mutants have significant application in the purification or isolation of C5 from samples and in the identification or detection, including quantitation, of C5 in samples. Use of the mutants has the benefit of minimising or preventing simultaneous isolation and/or detection of IgA in a sample, simplifying and improving methods relying on wild type SSL7.
