  • Patent number: 7845466
Abstract: A sound generator for a vehicle is provided, including a hollow drum having a sound radiation panel structurally and acoustically coupled thereto. The drum has an aperture formed in an outer wall thereof. The drum is adapted to be in fluid communication with an air conduit of the vehicle. The sound radiation panel covers at least a portion of the aperture and is adapted to radiate sound energy to at least one of an engine compartment and an interior of the vehicle. A vehicle system including the sound generator and a method for manufacturing the sound generator are also provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 28, 2007
Date of Patent: December 7, 2010
    Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: John David Kostun, Mark Donald Hellie, Christopher Edward Shaw, Anthony Charles Arruda, Martin James Styles
  • Patent number: 7690478
Abstract: A resonator for a vehicle air intake system is disclosed, wherein the resonator is variable tuned to militate against the emission of sound waves caused by the engine and other sources at a wide range of engine speeds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 15, 2006
Date of Patent: April 6, 2010
    Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: John David Kostun, David John Moenssen, Mark Donald Hellie, Erich James Vorenkamp, Christopher Edward Shaw

  • Publication number: 20020103595
Abstract: A method of tuning a vehicle includes measuring a plurality of inlet and outlet frequency responses at the inlet and outlet ports, respectively. The inlet and outlet responses each include an amplitude response and phase response. The method also includes determining inlet and outlet transfer functions that include amplitude and phase responses. An interior noise spectrum is determined and the engine air in/out system is modified based on the interior noise spectrum to result in a different interior noise spectrum.
    Type: Application
    Filed: January 26, 2001
    Publication date: August 1, 2002
