  • Publication number: 20080244052
Abstract: A system chassis includes multiple chassis bays configured for receiving either of a single, conventional server blade or an adapter blade. The adapter blade can selectively secure a plurality of compact blades, such as a blade PC. The adapter blade includes an interposer disposed for electronically communicating each compact blade with a server interface as a separate node upon securing a compact blade within any of the adapter bays. Each compact blade may be configured as a server, a “client blade” or “blade PC”, or a companion blade providing application-specific features. Therefore, the use of an adapter blade increases the flexibility of and capability of the processor system.

  • Publication number: 20080235407
Abstract: A system for automatically determining a configuration of an I/O connector panel is disclosed. The system provides information about the capabilities of the connector card to a memory within the connector card, examining the information in the memory. The system further downloads at least one driver to a system coupled to the I/O connector panel based upon the examined information. The I/O capabilities of a platform (as determined by an I/O panel or other hardware that contains some identification mechanism that defines the I/O capabilities) is within the connector card. This mechanism is then used to determine what software to “preload” into a system so that as new I/O devices are added in the field, the required software for these devices has already been preloaded.

  • Publication number: 20080162952
Abstract: A computer implemented method for managing power usage in a data processing system. Power usage by a set of input/output devices attached to the data processing system is monitored. If it is determined that the power usage requires a change in power consumption by a processing unit, the clock speed of the processing unit is changed to change the power consumption by the processing unit.

  • Publication number: 20080155332
Abstract: A computer implemented method and computer program product for detecting and communicating boot failures in a client device. A Dynamic Host Control Protocol server is configured to monitor Dynamic Host Control Protocol communications from one or more client devices, wherein the client devices are configured to boot from local media. A boot request is received from a client device in response to a failure of the client device to boot from the local media. Responsive to receiving the boot request, a determination is made that a boot failure has occurred on the client device.

  • Publication number: 20080065738
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments describe a system and a method for performing the functions of a PCI Express feature card remotely from a data processing system. The system is comprised of a circuit board connected to a PCI-E feature card. The PCI-E feature card is remotely located in comparison to the circuit board. Architecturally, the PCI-E feature card appears to the circuit board to be located at the circuit board.
