    Abstract: There is provided a flat optical fiber cable comprised of a plurality of plastic coated optical fibers arranged parallel to one another and enveloped within a fiber-reinforced plastic jacket and possessing enhanced mechanical strength and thermal stability. A plurality of the flat optical fiber cables may be stacked together and surrounded by a plastic sheath which does not require additional strength members in view of the inherent strength of the flat cables contained therein.
