  • Publication number: 20020082462
Abstract: This invention relates to a process and a chemical plant for the production primarily of paraxylene. In particular the process and chemical plant utilize zeolite membranes for enhanced paraxylene production.
    Type: Application
    Filed: January 31, 2002
    Publication date: June 27, 2002
Inventors: John Michael Ferraro, Robert Michael Osman, John Di-Yi Ou, Graeme Ian Cox, James Richardson Lattner, Kenneth Ray Clem
  • Publication number: 20020065444
Abstract: A process and a system for increasing para-xylene production from a C8 aromatic feedstream by coupling at least one xylene isomerization reactor with at least one pressure swing adsorption unit or temperature swing absorption unit to produce a product having a super-equilibrium para-xylene concentration. This product is then subjected to para-xylene separation and purification.
    Type: Application
    Filed: February 22, 2001
    Publication date: May 30, 2002

  • Patent number: 6060633
Abstract: A supported Lewis acid catalyst system for catalyzing hydrocarbon conversion reactions including cationic polymerization, alkylation, isomerization and cracking reactions is disclosed, wherein the catalyst system comprises an inorganic oxide support having immobilized thereon a least one strong Lewis acid comprising at least one metal salt of a strong Bronsted acid wherein the metal is selected from the group consisting of aluminum, boron gallium, antimony, tantalum, niobium, yttrium, cobalt, nickel, iron, tin, zinc, magnesium barium strontium, calcium, tungsten, molybdenum and the metals of the lanthanide series and wherein the strong Bronsted acid is selected from the group consisting of mineral and organic acids stronger than 100% sulfuric acid.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5952541
Abstract: Lead impurities are removed from a liquid hydrocarbon stream by contacting the hydrocarbon stream with an adsorbent, which has been prepared by contacting the adsorbent with an organohalide under conditions which cause the organohalide to decompose; thus, producing an adsorbent containing hydrogen halide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 9, 1996
Date of Patent: September 14, 1999
    Assignee: Exxon Chemical Patents, Inc.
Inventors: John Di-Yi Ou, Daniel David Rosenfeld
  • Patent number: 5756873
Abstract: A method is provided for simply and effectively increasing monoalkylation of aromatic compounds while also increasing the life of the acid catalyst used to alkylate said compounds. The method and apparatus involve drastically reducing the amount of the alkylation agent present in the reaction mixture, e.g., to at least about a 99:1 excess of aromatic, preferably to about a 999:1 excess of aromatic. In a preferred embodiment, the alkylation agent is introduced intermittently, or in stages, at a ratio of at least 999:1 so that the excess of aromatic may be maintained at all points in the reactor in order to most effectively prolong the life of the catalyst. For continuous operation, a single reactor equipped with multiple injection ports may be used, or multiple reactors may be connected in series adapted so that the alkylation agent may be introduced prior to each reactor.
