Patent number: 11391169Abstract: A blade wheel of a turbomachine, which blade wheel has a multiplicity of blades which are suitable and provided for extending radially in a flow path of the turbomachine, wherein the blades form a blade entry angle and a blade exit angle. Provision is made whereby the blade wheel forms N blocks of blades, where N?2, wherein the blades of a block have in each case the same blade entry angle and the same blade exit angle, and the blades of at least two mutually adjacent blocks have a different blade entry angle and/or a different blade exit angle. According to a further aspect of the invention, partial gaps that the blades form in relation to an adjacent flow path boundary are varied in mutually adjacent blocks.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2021Date of Patent: July 19, 2022Assignees: ROLLS-ROYCE DEUTSCHLAND LTD & CO KG, ROLLS-ROYCE PLCInventors: Sven Schrape, Bernhard Mück, Jens Nipkau, Thomas Giersch, Frank Heinichen, John Dodds

Patent number: 11242912Abstract: A chain fastening assembly includes a fastener that has a first loop and a second loop. The first loop has a clevis that is attached to a chain being releasably fastened to the first loop. Additionally, the first loop has a diameter that is sufficient to have a chain link passed therethrough regardless of the orientation of the chain link. The second loop has an inside diameter being sufficient to have a chain link passed therethrough when the chain link is oriented to lie on a vertical plane. Thus, the chain link can be passed into the second loop. Moreover, the second loop has an inside diameter being insufficient to allow the chain link to pass therethrough when the chain link is oriented to lie on a horizontal plane. In this way the fastener retains the chain in a closed loop for towing or the like.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2019Date of Patent: February 8, 2022Inventor: John Dodds

Patent number: 9441636Abstract: A rotor, for a compressor of a gas turbine, comprising a rotatable support for rotation about an axis of rotation and a plurality of blades. Each blade comprising a hub, a leading edge and a trailing edge and a chord is defined between the leading edge and the trailing edge. Each of the blades extends from its hub away from the rotatable support and at least one of the blades has a hub-thickness to chord ratio greater than 10 percent. The leading edge of the at least one of the blades at its hub is positioned at a leading-edge-hub-radius from a position of the axis of rotation and the trailing edge of the at least one of the blades is positioned at its hub at a trailing-edge-hub-radius from the position of the axis of rotation. The trailing-edge-hub-radius is greater than the leading-edge-hub-radius.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2012Date of Patent: September 13, 2016Assignee: ROLLS-ROYCE plcInventors: John Dodds, Jillian C. Patent number: 5147552Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for tangential filtration with filter cleaning in which a fluid to be filtered forms a liquid loop and circulates tangentially to one surface of a membrane at a pressure Ph in which a filtrate flows from the other surface of the membrane through a pipe, provided with a flow meter and a first valve, to a tank at atmospheric pressure Pa, filtration taking place by virtue of a positive transmembranal pressure Ph - Pa. In the filtration phase, the hydrodynamic pressure Ph is adjusted by means of a second regulable valve. During the filter cleaning phase the first valve is closed and at the same time the second valve is slightly opened, the second valve is suddenly opened, the first valve is opened and the second valve is progressively closed. The method and apparatus in particularly suited to the filtration of corrosive liquids.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1991Date of Patent: September 15, 1992Assignee: Le Carbone LorraineInventors: Marc Hlavacek, John Dodds, Jean-Michel Bauer
