  • Patent number: 8681012
Abstract: A detector (101) for detecting smoke from a fire and generating an alarm has a detection chamber (105) in which a light source (111) and a light detector (113) are arranged. In normal use, the light detector (113) only receives light from the light source that has been scattered by the presence of smoke in the chamber (105). When testing the detector (101), the light detector (113) receives light from the light source (111) by presenting a reflecting surface (129a) of a rotor member (129) to reflect light from the light source (111) towards the light detector (113). In normal use, the rotor member (129) is positioned so that the reflecting surface (129a) no longer reflects light from the light source (111) towards the light detector (113).

  • Publication number: 20070278781
Abstract: A device for preventing spray from emerging from the wheels of vehicles comprises a panel (4) that is adapted to be mounted substantially vertically behind a vehicle wheel (3) for receiving on a first side water released by the wheel (3) as it rotates. The panel (4) includes at least one passage (6) which leads from the first side to a rear second side of the panel (4). The or each passage (6) is other than normal to the plane of the panel (4). There is at least one water-collecting pocket (7A, 7B, 7C) along the side of the or each passage (6). In use, air and water enter the or each passage (6) and are separated so that air passes through the or each passage (6) and mixes with ambient air and water collects in the at least one water-collecting pocket (7A, 7B, 7C).

  • Publication number: 20030219454
Abstract: Haemagglutinin polypeptides and encoding nucleic acids are isolated from eleven strains of Haemophilus paragallinarum. The haemagglutinin polypeptides are useful in vaccines for immunization against infectious coryza in chickens, as are the encoding nucleic acids when expressed in attenuated bacteria. Also provided are methods of use of the haemagglutinin polypeptides and nucleic acids for detection and diagnosis of, and immunization against, infectious coryza in chickens.
