  • Patent number: 5842376
Abstract: A system and method for decreasing the time required to complete a ratio change in an electronically enhanced powertrain system is provided. The powertrain system includes a number of devices for providing a retarding torque to engine rotation to increase the decay rate of the engine speed during an upshift. These devices include an engine brake and an input shaft brake. A retarding torque is also provided by increasing engine accessory load by controlling various engine accessories such as a cooling fan, an air compressor, a hydraulic pump, an air conditioning compressor, and an alternator.

  • Patent number: 5186066
Abstract: An auxiliary transmission section (14) shift control system (230)/method is provided which includes a control member (234) to prevent auxiliary section synchronized clutch (92, 128) damage if the main transmission section (12) is engaged during an auxiliary section shift. Upon sensing main section engagement during a shift into the auxiliary section high-speed ratio, the force used to engage the high speed ratio is reduced from a first to a considerably lower second level by reducing the pressurization of the actuating pressurized fluid. To accomplish this, a dual pressure pressure regulator assembly (234) is utilized.

  • Patent number: 5152544
Abstract: Sensors (170, 172) for sensing articulation angle (AA) and/or a time derivative thereof (dAA/dt, d.sup.2 AA/dt.sup.2) for a trailer anti-swing control system are provided. In the preferred embodiments, at least the active transducers of the sensors are mounted to the tractor (12) subvehicle of the articulated vehicle system (10).
