  • Patent number: 4981259
Abstract: A ballot box is disclosed for use in combination with an electronic voter ballot tabulating device which accepts marked paper ballots, tabulates the voter selection thereon and dispenses the tabulated ballots through one of a plurality of exit openings in its bottom side. The ballot box comprises an enclosure having side walls, end walls, a bottom member and a top member having at least one pair of parallel, space apart elongated openings that are aligned with the exit openings of the tabulated device. Within the enclosure, partitions are provided for forming separate storage chambers beneath each of the elongated openings for receiving tabulated ballots of different categories. Access to the enclosure is provided for retrieving ballots connected in the storage chambers. A special compartment with an inlet slot is provided for receiving and storing marked ballots temporarily when the tabulating device is inoperative.

  • Patent number: 4854652
Abstract: A pair of portable self contained voting booths comprised of main base members which fit together to form a compact carrying case for all of the other components of the two booths including support legs and foldable privacy shields. Each base member has corner sockets for receiving the support legs from below and a recessed central portion that provides storage space for the support legs and shield, when the base members are held together by removable clips in their storage and transporting mode. When erected for use, the base members are separated by release of the clips so that, the support legs and privacy shields for both booths can be quickly installed and set up to provide two voting stations.

  • Patent number: 4712757
Abstract: An adapter device for portable voting booth serves to widen the space between front support legs. The adaptive device is comprised of two parallel, spaced apart cylindrical members, with coplanar lower end portions. The cylindrical members are connected together by a horizontal flange portion coplanar with, and extending beyond, the lower end portion perimeters thereof. One cylindrical member is inserted into a corner member of the portable voting booth from below, and the other cylindrical member is hollow and forms a socket which receives and grips a support leg inserted into the socket from below the voting booth. The cylindrical member and support leg socket member for the device are separated by a vertical flange portion tapered toward the cylindrical member which inhibits flexing of the support leg when the adapter device is in use.

  • Patent number: 4642450
Abstract: A punch-out stylus for use with a tabulating device particularly for handicapped persons has a generally elongated body section with a rigid rod member extending axially from one end therefrom and having a tip designed for removing chad from a pre-scored card. An enlarged body portion is attached to the other end of the elongated body section and has an indentation along one side adapted to receive the thumb of the stylus user as the enlarged body portion is gripped.

  • Patent number: 4569564
Abstract: A compact, foldable voting booth of corrugated cardboard or other suitable material can be set up in seconds into a sturdy voting booth of standard height. In storage or transit configuration, it is folded and forms into a compact, portable box/carrying case. The voting booth is of two components, a top portion which is the carrying case and also forms the voting table, and a base portion which can be folded and stored inside the carrying case. The top portion is in the form of a container having a lid which is swung pivotally around against the bottom of the container to expose a back shield and a pair of side shields, forming the voting table. The container is placed, with its open side down, on the erected rectangular base portion.

  • Patent number: 4445731
Abstract: A portable self-contained voting booth has improved features of compactness, lightness of weight, leg-holding stability, durability and convenience in use. Its carrying case includes interior corner members that both provide leg sockets for receiving legs from below and also serve to receive and hold down a vote recorder or board/carrier to which a vote record system may be secured. The unit is very quickly set up and produces a sturdy free-standing voting booth. The booth may also be used for paper ballot voting by simply removing the vote recorder or other voting system carrier from the booth.

  • Patent number: 4297566
Abstract: A data registering device for use with machine-processable record punch cards includes a punch card frame supporting resilient strips for receiving punched-out chad pieces which are pushed between the strips by a hand-held stylus. The device further includes a lower card guide attached at a head end of the punch card frame and an upper card guide connected to the lower card guide. The two card guides are adapted to receive the punch card between them. A stylus-guiding template is slidably positioned over the resilient strips for receiving in registry the punch card immediately below. The device improves on prior constructions by providing a removable press-fit attachment connecting the lower card guide with the punch card frame, for permitting removal of the lower card guide from the punch card frame and replacement of the resilient strips when required.

  • Patent number: 4258249
Abstract: A punching stylus for tabulating devices wherein the stylus is inserted through a selected hole in a rigid top plate of the device and through an aligned tabulating card. The stylus comprises a slender, rigid rod having a hardened tip and mounted within a non-rigid handle member in such a way that the handle is flexible relative to the rod. Thus, in use, the rod of the stylus will not break if the stylus is moved laterally or bent over when inserted in the plate hole of a tabulating device.
