  • Publication number: 20080164098
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling human scent from hunters in tree stands. The apparatus in its preferred form is a portable tree stand in combination with a heat shield and a heater holder selectively attached to the bottom of the tree stand foot platform to define a plenum and a portable heater holder. In operation the heater, such as a propane heater, heats the air in the plenum which expands and rises like all warm air and carries with it the human scent which is then directed up past the body and away.

  • Patent number: 5951866
Abstract: A wetland bioreactor treatment cell for use in a waste water treatment process for reducing stated water quality indicators of the waste water is provided. The wetland bioreactor treatment cell comprises a vegetated containment area containing porous media for receiving an influent comprising water and organic waste material with the containment area having a front end and a rear end. A manifold distributor structure for receiving and distributing the influent into the containment area is provided with the manifold distributor structure being positioned entirely within the front end of the containment area and the manifold distributor structure having a port for allowing cleaning or maintenance of the manifold distributor structure. A hydraulic upflow structure is positioned nearingly adjacent and downstream from the manifold distributor structure with the hydraulic upflow structure maintaining a substantial amount of suspended solids in the front end of the containment area.

  • Patent number: 5744041
Abstract: A method for the step-wise reduction of biological oxygen demand of a waste material having a high concentration of organic waste is provided. The method comprises the steps of providing waste material having a biological oxygen demand and allowing the waste material to separate into a liquid fraction comprising water and suspended organic waste, and allowing at least a portion of the organic waste to be anaerobically digested by microorganisms naturally occurring in the organic waste. Next, at least a portion of the liquid fraction having a reduced biological oxygen demand in relation to the biological oxygen demand of the waste material is removed and mixed with aerobic microorganisms and an aerating gas and allowing at least a portion of the organic waste in the aerobic mixture to be aerobically digested by the aerobic microorganisms to form a liquor comprising water and suspended solids. The liquor has a reduced biological oxygen demand relative to the biological oxygen demand of the liquid fraction.
