  • Patent number: 11124209
Abstract: A system for determining a location of a rail vehicle based on an radio frequency (RF) signal that includes at least one processor programmed or configured to determine that a first RF communication signal transmitted by a head of train (HOT) unit of a plurality of rail vehicles is received by an end of train (EOT) unit of the plurality of rail vehicles, determine whether a second RF communication signal transmitted by the HOT unit is received by the EOT unit during a time interval after a time at which the first RF communication signal was determined to be received by the EOT unit, and determine one or more locations of the plurality of rail vehicles based on determining that the second RF communication signal transmitted by the HOT unit is not received by the EOT unit during the time interval. A method and computer program product are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9783213
Abstract: An end of train device includes an enclosure having an exterior and a hollow interior housing a plurality of components; and a protective arrangement disposed within the hollow interior of the enclosure and fitted at least partially around at least one component housed within the hollow interior. The protective arrangement defines at least one compartment for the at least one component of the plurality components. The protective arrangement at least partially supports and isolates the at least one component from the enclosure. The device also includes an impact resistant handle disposed on the exterior of the enclosure. The handle is configured to absorb impacts without causing substantial deformation to the enclosure.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20130221166
Abstract: A rail car intercar cable arrangement, including: a rail car intercar cable having a first end comprising a first connection arrangement configured for attachment to a connection point of a rail car; and a second end comprising a second connection arrangement configured for attachment to a second end of another rail car intercar cable; and a hanger arrangement comprising at least one hanger member having a first end and a second end, wherein at least a portion of the first end of the hanger member is attached to at least a portion of the rail car intercar cable, such that the at least one hanger member is not directly attached to a portion of the rail car, and wherein the hanger member is configured to support the rail car intercar cable, thereby preventing the rail car intercar cable from contacting a ground surface.
