  • Patent number: 6057748
Abstract: An electromagnetic wave component uses one or more diaphragms secured to the interior of a waveguide structure to tune its resonant frequency, with each diaphragm engaged by one or more adjustment members that deform it. The adjustment members are preferably screws that are threaded through the structure to push and/or pull on the diaphragms, thereby tuning the electromagnetic wave component. The shift in the resonant frequency of the electromagnetic wave component due to temperature-induced dimensional changes is mitigated if the materials used for the diaphragm, the adjustment members and the structure which houses the diaphragm are chosen to have an appropriate combination of thermal coefficients of expansion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 14, 1999
Date of Patent: May 2, 2000
    Assignee: Hughes Electronics Corporation
Inventors: Ching-yuan L. Hsing, John E. Jordan, Paul J. Tatomir

  • Patent number: 5192984
Abstract: Apparatus and method for determination of concentrations of a substance in solution in a sample by determining the time between when the substance first appears and when it disappears. The time between the appearance and the disappearance of the substance is used to determine the concentrations of the substance in a sample. The apparatus includes many elements of a flow injection analysis system but also includes a very important stirred dilution chamber that enables the apparatus to use a simplified detection system that is capable of being used over a wide range of sample concentrations. The apparatus can include a microwave digestion system and in one embodiment a continuous flow microwave digestion system.

  • Patent number: 4246531
Abstract: A prime mover delivers rotational torque to a generator having an exciter and a main unit connected sequentially along the prime mover output shaft. A voltage sensor is connected to the generator output and supplies a signal reflective of the output voltage to a frequency source. The frequency source is connected to receive power from a secondary energy source associated with the prime mover. The frequency source supplies an output signal at a preselected frequency at variable power levels related to the magnitude of the generator output voltage. The frequency source output is connected to the stator of the exciter to generate the magnetic field therein which rotates directionally with respect to the rotational direction of the prime mover output shaft to generate an output of preselected frequency.
