  • Patent number: 5104239
Abstract: A bearing and a method for extending the life of such bearing is disclosed. The bearing is shown to include an inner ring having first and second race channels, wherein each race channel defines first and second raceways adapted for contact with loaded rolling elements. An outer ring is shown to have third and fourth race channels, wherein each race channel defines first and second raceways adapted for contact with loaded rolling elements. A plurality of rolling elements are positioned within the race channels and are preferably oriented so that the axis of rotation of rolling elements in the first race channel is uniform and the axis of rotation of rolling elements in the second race channel is uniform. A pair of ports formed in one of the rings, each port intercepting at least one of the race channels, wherein each port has a cross-sectional area sufficient to permit the re-orientation or replacement of the axis of rotation of the rolling elements without having to remove the bearing from its installation.

  • Patent number: 4906113
Abstract: A slew ring bearing for coupling the superstructure of a large piece of heavy equipment to the base having an inner ring attachable to the underside of the superstructure and an outer ring having gear teeth on its outer cylindrical surface concentric with the inner ring and attachable to a stationary base frame. An upper and lower V-groove are found in an outer cylindrical face of the inner ring. Corresponding upper and lower V-grooves are formed on an inner cylindrical face of the outer ring positioned opposite corresponding upper and lower V-grooves on the inner ring so as to form in combination therewith associated upper and lower roller bearing raceways. A plurality of rolling elements are positioned in the upper and lower raceways so as to permit rotation of the inner ring relative to the outer ring. A plurality of bronze spacers are positioned with one spacer between each pair of rollers.

  • Patent number: 4065192
Abstract: In a bearing assembly including an annular member having a load carrying surface, the improvement comprising means defining a pocket in said annular member having a circumferentially extending generally radially directed wall and an axially extending surface projecting from said radial wall outwardly toward the end face of said annular member, said axially extending surface being inwardly tapered at a predetermined angle, a ring like insert having a peripherally extending surface defining a raceway and radial and axial surface portions complementing the radial and axial surface portions of said annular member, said axially extending surface portions of said member and insert being suitably dimensioned to provide an interference fit when assembled.
