  • Patent number: 4046933
Abstract: In a transparent laminated window or canopy for aircraft and the like, flexible fabric tape impregnated with a silicone elastomeric adhesive applied against a surface of one of the plies or reinforcements of the window is used to bond at least one of the plies or reinforcements to another element of the laminated window or to a reinforcing frame of an aircraft panel which comprises the laminated window. Such tape is easier to apply during the assembly operation than previously used silicone pastes, thereby reducing the cost of fabricating aircraft panels incorporating said window or canopy without paying any unduly large penalty in adhesion between the elements of the panel.

  • Patent number: 4046951
Abstract: This invention relates to laminated transparent assemblies having novel composite edge sealing means of organic composition consisting essentially of a thin barrier layer of an organofluoro composition selected from the class consisting of fluorinated ethylene polymers and copolymers of fluorinated ethylene and fluorinated propylene having a high resistance to moisture penetration and a sealant layer and/or a cushion coat selected from the class consisting of polysulfides, silicones and fluorosilicones having an adhesive bond to the transparent lamina of the laminated transparent assembly and to the barrier layer and some moisture resistant properties to provide a composite edge seal that is suitably adhered to the marginal edge of the laminated transparent assembly.

  • Patent number: 4004388
Abstract: Window panels that have edge portions which are out of desired contour have straps of molded fiber glass reinforced thermosetting resinous material adhered to and overlapping both sides of the panels in marginal areas outside the viewing area and extending outwardly from the edges of the panels providing structural supporting members which are molded to conform to the desired panel edge contour for precise fit with frame members of the supporting structures. The straps for each unit are applied between its window panel and a frame member that conforms in shape to an aircraft mounting in an uncured state so that they conform to the respective shapes of the window panel and the frame member. While under heat and pressure during lamination, the straps cure to form rigid connecting members rigidly secured to the window panel, thus forming a rigid unitary structure whose outline shape conforms to that of the aircraft mounting.
