  • Patent number: 7613806
Abstract: This invention is a system and method for managing replication of data distributed over one or more computer systems. The method includes the computer-executed steps of establishing one or more mirrored copies of data that are copies of one or more volumes of standard data (e.g. a database) on a first computer system. The mirrored copies of data are separated or split from the standard data. A map is created relating logical information to physical devices on the first computer system. Then a duplicate of the one or more mirrored copies of data is mounted on the second computer system by using the map to create another volume group on the second computer. It is substantially identical to the first volume group. The first and second computer may be integrally combined.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: November 3, 2009
    Assignee: EMC Corporation
Inventors: Michael H. Wright, John E. Stockenberg
  • Patent number: 7398286
Abstract: A method and system for assisting with backup and restore operations of data stored in a data storage system is provided. The server and client processes of the backup and restore application include software which allow both processes to communicate with one another either over a network or through the data storage system. The server and client processes are capable of recognizing the calls for both types of communication mechanisms needed for either network or data storage system communications. Once the type of call is recognized the processes can direct the call to the appropriate communication mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20030065780
Abstract: This invention is a system and method for managing replication of data distributed over one or more computer systems. A data storage system can perform computer-executed steps of establishing one or more mirrored copies of data that are copies of one or more volumes of standard data (e.g. a database) on a first computer system. In one embodiment, the mirrored data is restored using logical volume swapping.
