  • Patent number: 4323009
Abstract: An article crushing device having a base support on which is mounted an anvil bracket for supporting the item to be crushed includes a crushing piston disposed in a cylindrical housing which is adapted to slidably move therein. An operating handle, pivotally connected to the base support, is provided with a means connecting the operating handle to the piston for progressively increasing the ratio of force on the piston to moment on the operating handle as the piston approaches the anvil bracket during the crushing operation of the article.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 5, 1980
Date of Patent: April 6, 1982
    Inventor: John E. Voigt
  • Patent number: 4066495
Abstract: This application covers the use of a cationic starch and a polyacrylamide polymer as a retention aid in the manufacture of paper. The resulting paper containing the additives is characterized by improved retention of pigments.

Inventors: John E. Voigt, Herbert Pender, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4040862
Abstract: Process for preparing a thermal converting starch by reacting an alkaline hypochlorite oxidized starch with a water soluble aluminum salt. The treatment provides a starch product which when pasted at high temperatures will degrade to give a low viscosity material. The process includes the steps of slurrying oxidized starch in water and treating the oxidized starch with a water soluble aluminum salt.

  • Patent number: 4033914
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a waterproof and weather-resistant adhesive composition for use in the manufacture of corrugated board and its preparation. More specifically, it concerns the preparation of a water-resistant paperboard adhesive containing a resin and a primary, secondary or tertiary amine compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, and R.sub.4 are the same or different and are hydrogen, alkyl groups of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, or hydroxyalkyl groups of 1 to 3 carbon atoms. This improved starch base adhesive has superior viscosity stability, improved gel temperature, and excellent pot life stability compared to an adhesive made without aminohydroxy compound.

  • Patent number: 3973985
Abstract: Starch is prepared for use in the manufacture of paper products by reacting an alkaline hypochlorite oxidized starch with ammonium persulfate. The treatment provides a starch product which when pasted at high temperatures will degrade to give a low viscosity material. The process includes the steps of slurrying lightly oxidized starch in water and further oxidizing the starch with ammonium persulfate. When this starch is suspended in water and heated to pasting, it shows lower viscosities than other starches of comparable starting viscosities.
